Obon is a special occasion for Japanese Americans and Shin Buddhists. It is a time to remember those who have come before us and to reflect with deep gratitude on how their lives made our own possible. The Vista Buddhist Temple's Obon Festival will include discussions on Buddhism, homestyle Japanese foods, performances (taiko drumming, judo, hands-on koto, and sumi-e demonstrations), and a marketplace of local produce, plants, and crafts. Parking and admission are free. Obon is also known for Bon Odori folk dancing, a celebration and expression of gratitude for those who are no longer with us. Everyone is invited to join in on the dancing, which starts at 6:30 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday! Vista Buddhist Temple on Facebook / Instagram
