Working in hot wax allows for fast assembly of many mixed-media compositions. The warmed wax is applied by brush then set by heat gun. Once it has cooled, the piece has a durable finish. You may add layers on top of the finish, dig into it, or embed things. In fact, there are an amazing number of ways to work in this medium. You may leave your work at your station for the entire workshop. We will paint from a life model on location at La Jolla Shores. Students are also welcome to draw instead of paint from the model if they prefer. Plein air painting is an excellent way to learn about oil painting technique and triumph over creative issues while enjoying the camaraderie of fellow artists. The class will emphasize value study, landscape composition, and color theory using a limited palette taught through demonstration and individual instruction.
