The spirit of innovation is alive and well in North County as young entrepreneurs prepare to launch their very own businesses at the Acton Children’s Business Fair on Saturday, June 14, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at North County Mall’s Center Court (First Floor). As the largest entrepreneurship event for kids in North America, the fair provides a unique platform for children up to age 13 to create and showcase their own businesses. From handmade crafts and custom treats to original services and products, each booth is entirely youth-led—designed, marketed, and managed by the kids themselves. Participants will: - Build a brand and develop a product or service - Learn marketing and customer engagement strategies - Operate their own booth and manage transactions - Gain real-world business experience in a fun, supportive environment This one-day, hands-on event fosters creativity, confidence, and leadership through experiential learning. Escape the city and become a steward of the breathtaking land at Lillian Hill Preserve! Join us for a unique opportunity to explore this stunning open space preserve located in the headwaters of the San Diego River. As a volunteer, you’ll connect with fellow nature lovers, soak in the beauty of the landscape, and maybe even spot wildlife like deer or snake! Together, we’ll help care for this conserved land by repairing recreational trails — vital work that keeps the preserve healthy and accessible for all to enjoy. This month we will focus on trimming the trail with hedgers, weed whackers, loppers and hand pruners to prepare for our upcoming Sunset Hike. All tools will be provided. This Preserve Stewards event takes place from 8 a.m. to noon on San Diego River Park Foundation preserves near Julian or Descanso, approximately a 1.5-hour drive from downtown San Diego. Get outside, give back, and experience the joy of spending time in the wild beauty of San Diego! What is Lillian Hill? An expansive 80-acre property at Lillian Hill was placed on the market for potentially five building sites. Surrounded by National Forest, its development would have had a significant impact. We set out to buy this land to conserve it forever for the badgers, cougars, eagles, falcons, majestic oaks, and more. Now that it has been purchased, we can begin removing the scars of decades of land use and start the healing process.
