  • Author Jennifer Coburn appears at the Library to celebrate the Fall 2022 publication of her new novel, "Cradles of the Reich". Set in 1939, Germany is on the brink of war and Hitler’s plan to create a “master race” of pure-blooded Aryan babies has been launched. The top-secret Lebensborn Nazi breeding program is brought to life amidst the story of three German women who change the course of one another's lives. Coburn has also published a mother-daughter travel memoir, We'll Always Have Paris, as well as six contemporary women's novels. Additionally, she has contributed to five literary anthologies, including "A Paris All Your Own". Books will be sold at the event courtesy of Adventures by the Book and are available for pre-sale here. She lives in San Diego with her husband, William. Their daughter, Katie, is currently in graduate school. When Jennifer is not going down historical-research rabbit holes, she volunteers with So Say We All, a live storytelling organization, for which she is a performer, producer, and performance coach. She is also an active volunteer with Reality Changers, a nonprofit that supports low-income high school students in becoming the first in their families to attend college.   • As bystanders screamed for help, a man with a knife stabbed four young children at a lakeside park in the French Alps. The children suffered life-threatening injuries, and two adults were wounded.

The film focuses on the ancient and obscure Christian prayer first recited by the Apostles more than 2,000 years ago in the Egyptian desert. Originally passed down verbally from one generation to the next, monks eventually transcribed the sacred words into instruction manuals originally intended only for those dedicated to a life of isolation.

  • Stephane Wrembel and his quartet celebrate the life of Django Reinhardt. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show starts at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $25 each in cash. He’ll be performing with his quartet including Josh Kaye on guitar, Nick Anderson on drums and Ari Folman-Cohen on bass. He’s just finished recording a debut project of Django New Orleans with some incredible musicians who flew up from NOLA. That album will be out May 5th. Stephane Wrembel is one of the most highly regarded guitarists in the world specializing in the style of Reinhardt; he learned his craft among the Gypsies at campsites in the French countryside. He has had a remarkable career, having toured the U.S, France, UK, India, Nigeria, and more. He has released16 albums under his name and the nom de plume, The Django Experiment with the most recent installment in the series, The Django Experiment VI. His original compositions have been featured in the Woody Allen movies Vicki Cristina Barcelona (“Big Brother”) and Midnight in Paris (“Bistro Fada”). Most recently, he contributed the original score for Rifkin’s Festival. Since 2003, Wrembel has produced the Django a Gogo Festival, bringing together some of the finest musicians in the world to celebrate the gypsy jazz style of guitar to perform in prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall and The Town Hall.
