Learn to create these stunning pieces of art that intertwine Japanese culture and the changing of the seasons. By end of the semester, you will have learned to design beautiful and professional looking arrangements for both everyday and special occasions. This class is free and open to the public.   • Mission Valley invites the community to experience “Something Wicked” – a family-friendly celebration of the highly anticipated premiere of “Wicked: For Good!” taking place Friday, November 21, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the AMC Court. Guests can enjoy photo moments with Elphaba and Glinda and a live performance by Trinity Theatre Company, then stop by the Trinity Theatre booth to meet the talented cast and learn about upcoming shows. Music by DJ Sass and whimsical entertainment from the Bubble Pirate will keep the fun going throughout the event. The first 100 guests can create free pink and green slime at Slime Kitchen, with additional themed slime available for purchase. Visitors can stop by the Princess Project booth to support local teens through dress donations and volunteer opportunities, helping provide prom dresses and accessories to those who might not otherwise have them. They can also try their luck at the Plinko board for a chance to win “Wicked”-themed prizes from retailers. It’s a magical evening of creativity, music and community connection. As part of the celebration, Mission Valley encourages guests to share the warmth by donating new or gently worn coats to the ongoing One Warm Coat drive, benefiting local families in need this season. The Something Wicked event is free and open to the public; no pre-registration is required.
  • We're thrilled to announce this special concert, pairing classic composer J.S. Bach with modern composer Joanna Forbes L’Estrange! Sung by the First UMC of San Diego Chancel Choir and Masterwork Chorale, the concert features Bach’s "Wachet ruft uns die Stimme" (Sleepers wake) and the world premier of L’Estrange’s "San Diego Service Magnificant." Performed in First Church’s breathtaking Sanctuary in Mission Valley and accompanied by the largest pipe organ in San Diego County, the Advent Choral Concert is an annual favorite of many. The concert is intended for all ages and free childcare will be provided.   • On Saturday, November 29th, the center will celebrate Santa’s arrival from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Guests are invited to help welcome Santa to his holiday cabin in the Nordstrom Rack Court where they will enjoy family-friendly crafts (while supplies last), face painting and special appearances by beloved characters – including holiday favorites like Elf on the Shelf and Frosty the Snowman. Sarah Beckman is Executive Director of Outside The Lens (OTL), a San Diego nonprofit media arts organization that engages 2,700+ young people annually—97% from systemically marginalized communities—to build creative confidence, explore career pathways, and drive social impact through storytelling. A creative strategist and visual storyteller with 25 years of nonprofit leadership, Sarah has guided Outside The Lens from a grassroots organization into a recognized innovator in creative youth development and media literacy, partnering with institutions like The Getty Museum on Voice Out, a regional exhibition that amplifies the perspectives of young artists. Sarah’s leadership philosophy is simple: create conditions for others to thrive. Whether expanding programs like Media Makers—which serves young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities—or securing catalyst funding for Balboa Park's Botanical Building during her tenure at Forever Balboa Park, she leads with curiosity and trust. She’s also the creative mind behind Culture & Cocktails at the San Diego Museum of Art and has presented at Public Lands Alliance and International Placemaking Week conferences. A Minnesota native with degrees in Journalism and Gender & Women's Studies from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Sarah was recently named a 2025 San Diego Magazine Nonprofit Pioneer.
