Arlene Wagner has been collecting nutcrackers for nearly 50 years. Now, she's got one of the largest collections in the world, housed at the Leavenworth Nutcracker Museum in Washington.

John Gutmann (1905–1998) and Max Yavno (1911–1985) were photographers who spent most of their careers in California’s two largest cities of the mid-twentieth century. Gutmann fled Nazi persecution in Germany and immigrated to San Francisco in 1933 while Yavno, a native New Yorker, moved to California in 1945, living in San Francisco and Los Angeles. These contemporaries photographed prominent aspects of modern American life, especially in their adopted home state of California. From a pervasive car culture to street life, signage, architecture, and sports and entertainment, they emphasized urban grit and energy while revealing distinct ways of seeing. Trained as an Expressionist painter in Germany, Gutmann approached these themes as a European in a new country, using the strong diagonals and daring, often low angles he learned from popular magazines in interwar Berlin to defamiliarize the everyday. Yavno’s more plainspoken and detached observations, by contrast, embody the prevailing direction of American photography of this era and his greater sociological impulse. Taken together, Gutmann and Yavno demonstrate how California was home to interconnecting, even conflicting strains in modern photography of the American scene. The 24th year of this fantastic event features 53 great films from 7 different popular arts genres including Action/Adventure, Animation, Comics-Oriented, Documentary (Popular Arts-Oriented), Horror/Suspense, Humor, and Science Fiction/Fantasy. We have participating filmmakers from all over the world, including Australia, Belgium, Canada, Germany, Hong Kong, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The schedule also includes the return of the popular ongoing panel series Comic-Con Film School, a daily series of how-to panels on filmmaking, plus additional film-related panels on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. On Sunday, the CCI-IFF Awards will be presented, followed by screenings of the award-winning films. This year’s judges are visual development supervisor at Marvel Studios Ian Joyner, senior illustrator, storyboard artist, and visual development artist Jasmine Alexia Jackson, and legendary actor Keone Young. The CCI-IFF takes place in the Marriott Marquis and Marina Hotel, next door to the Hall A side of the convention center. Welcome to Jean Isaacs, The Legacy Concert, a concert that will reflect our appetite of laughter, love and professionalism. All choreography for The Legacy Concert has been selected and choreographed by Isaacs from among 150 unique dances created over a 60 year career. Jean Isaacs has enjoyed a long rich career making dances throughout the region and beyond. Her creative energies have been widely recognized throughout the US, Mexico and Europe and she has been applauded for her work by critics and audiences alike. Performers for The Legacy Concert include many who have co-created the dances with Isaacs. Artists performing include Steve Baker, Monica Bill Barnes, Blythe Barton, Annie Boyer, Jill Breckenridge, Kate Brill, Jovani Chavez, Jessica Curiel, , Ivan Flores, Cora Fowler, Hazel Fowler, Natalia Hill, Cecily Holcombe, Liv Isaacs-Nollet, Jeremiah Jenkins, Robby Johnson, James la Rose Powell and David Wornovitzky.
