The Urban Greening Community workshop is an event discussing existing green spaces and planning for the addition of other green spaces, tree spaces, community led maintenance in Southeastern San Diego, specifically for the neighborhoods of Chollas View, Emerald Hills, and Lincoln Park. This free family-friendly workshop will host interactive activities facilitated by the Urban Greening Taskforce that will target community member feedback for the development of the following three subtasks of the UG: - Community led maintenance for green spaces, tree spaces - Identification of green and tree spaces in project area - Conceptual designs for green spaces and tree spaces in project area Join us to learn more about the Community Planning Collaborative for a Green Southeastern San Diego, a planning project funded by the Transformative Climate Communities led by UCP and various community based organizations and community members. This poetry workshop explores how writing can serve as a powerful tool for self-reflection, growth, expression, and comfort. Through examples of original work, participants will see how poetry can help navigate challenges, capture emotions, gain clarity, and express joy. The first 45 minutes will focus on understanding the impact of poetry and its connection to personal experiences. Participants will then have 45 minutes to write, using prompts designed to inspire creativity and self-expression. The session will conclude with an opportunity to share work, offer constructive feedback, and engage in a collaborative critique to support growth as poets and individuals. “Shooting for the Stars,” a talk by Richard Danne of Danne & Blackburn fame focuses on Richard’s life and illustrious career in brand identity and communication design fostered by his guiding principle: “Create work that has beauty, simplicity, and permanence.” The presentation includes the story behind the rise, fall, and rebirth of the award-winning NASA “worm” logo design, now one of the world’s most recognized design programs. In addition to receiving three U.S. Presidential Awards for Design Excellence and NASA’s Exceptional Public Achievement Medal, the logo, along with its graphic standards manual, was recently placed into the Museum of Modern Art's permanent collection. Following the presentation, Richard will be signing his new book, Shooting for the Stars: Six Decades of Timeless Design.
