This poetry workshop explores how writing can serve as a powerful tool for self-reflection, growth, expression, and comfort. Through examples of original work, participants will see how poetry can help navigate challenges, capture emotions, gain clarity, and express joy. The first 45 minutes will focus on understanding the impact of poetry and its connection to personal experiences. Participants will then have 45 minutes to write, using prompts designed to inspire creativity and self-expression. The session will conclude with an opportunity to share work, offer constructive feedback, and engage in a collaborative critique to support growth as poets and individuals. “Shooting for the Stars,” a talk by Richard Danne of Danne & Blackburn fame focuses on Richard’s life and illustrious career in brand identity and communication design fostered by his guiding principle: “Create work that has beauty, simplicity, and permanence.” The presentation includes the story behind the rise, fall, and rebirth of the award-winning NASA “worm” logo design, now one of the world’s most recognized design programs. In addition to receiving three U.S. Presidential Awards for Design Excellence and NASA’s Exceptional Public Achievement Medal, the logo, along with its graphic standards manual, was recently placed into the Museum of Modern Art's permanent collection. Following the presentation, Richard will be signing his new book, Shooting for the Stars: Six Decades of Timeless Design. The Secret Garden Tour of La Jolla offers a rare invitation for the public to stroll behind the gates of some of La Jolla’s loveliest secluded gardens. While the garden locations remain a closely guarded secret until the day of the tour, there will be six spectacular La Jolla properties with beautiful views and unique settings that make this tour unlike any other. Each garden experience is enhanced with live musicians, plein air artists, and tabletop designs created by talented local florists and designers.
