We may search prickly pear cactus for cochineal, a tiny insect that produces the brilliant red dye we call carminic acid, used to brighten everything from lipstick to yogurt to artists’ paints. The event is weather permitting. Wildlife is unpredictable; there is no guarantee of what you will see. Nature Collective is a local conservation and science education nonprofit organization. The 13th annual Ramona Art, Wine & Music Festival is returning to Begent Ranch in Ramona, Calif., on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025. One of San Diego County’s most popular festivals, we will have over 50 booths featuring artists, artisans, wineries, and craft beverage makers, with live music all day long! The primary fundraiser at the festival is our famous live auction, featuring wine barrels and furniture embellished by local artists. Once again, one of San Diego’s most popular emcees, the entertaining Josh Lawson, will be our auctioneer. The silent auction will feature 50+ baskets, with something for everyone! By popular demand, we are adding more variety with food trucks. Complimentary catered small bites will therefore no longer be offered, and the good news is that ticket prices have been reduced by $15. Designated Driver tickets are also available. Proceeds from this event benefit the Ramona H.E.A.R.T. Mural Project, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has been beautifying Ramona one mural at a time: currently 31 large-scale murals and counting, plus 17 mini-murals (painted utility boxes). The Dia de los Muertos festival is an important day to celebrate cultural pride in its many manifestations. When performances start, the giant garage-like door of the Performance Annex rises, and the music spills out from the stage and swells throughout the crowd nearby on the park lawn. Dancers grace the stage, and lyrical or staccato rhythms vibrate. Ever popular, Victoria Mariachi, and Rick and Friends return. There is dance for every taste from San Diego Ballet to Aztec Dancers. Theater lovers of all ages will be treated to The Old Globe and Fern St. Circus. Youth participate in a drum lesson with Drummers Without Borders, and a drum parade follows with colorful giant banners, inviting all to join. Family and community altars abound. There will be a Fun Zone for young ones with bouncy “houses.” Paper mask making activities for all ages is hosted by San Diego Guild of Puppetry. The Coronado School of the Arts (CoSA) has assembled some of the best teachers in Southern California to lead fun and inspiring art camps for students. Join us for two weeks of Summer fun, making friends, and making art! CoSA Summer Arts Camps are July 7-18, 2025 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. weekdays. Camps meet on the campus of Coronado High School and will culminate in an open exhibition/performance of creative works for families to enjoy in the last hour of the last day.
