Jeddy Knox, Americana singer, will be performing at Ocean Beach Oktoberfest this Saturday October 11 at Winstons Beach Club. Ocean Beach Oktoberfest returns October 10-11, 2025, as San Diego's wildest Oktoberfest celebration OB Oktoberfest, featuring a doubled beachfront footprint for this 21+ festival. On Friday, October 24, Songwriter Sanctuary will host Shea Givens, DevvLove, and SDMA Artist of the Year Anthony Cullins performing original music in a Nashville-style round. The event is hosted by the legendary Jeff Berkley in partnership with Normal Heights United. (4650 Mansfield St. Suggested Donation $10. All ages. Doors 6:30 p.m., Music 7 p.m.) All donations collected go directly to artists, and no one is turned away for lack of funds. About the Artists Shea Givens, a Missouri native now based in Southern California, is a musician known for her powerful live performances. With influences from R&B, Neo-Soul, Blues, Rock, and Country, she is unafraid to experiment with genre styles. Shea's music explores themes of love, mental health, and self-acceptance, drawing from personal experiences. She recently released the song "anxieties" both as a solo performance and with her band, showcasing her versatile musical style. Currently, Shea is working on her upcoming album with her bandmates, with the first single set to release in May 2024. Anthony Cullins, known as “The Fallbrook Kid,” fuses blues, funk, rock, and soul into a dazzling guitar style that’s earned him San Diego Music Awards for Best Blues Artist (2023) and Artist of the Year (2025). He has performed alongside icons including Frank Hannon, Greg Douglass, and Kid Ramos. DevvLov delivers a unique blend of rhythm and soul, performing from his cajón while looping percussion and keys. His sound weaves influences from Alicia Keys, Damien Rice, Bon Iver, Bob Marley, and Michael Jackson into something all his own. Join Catalyst of San Diego and Imperial Counties, Art Pharmacy, and San Ysidro Health for a live panel discussion on the power of social prescribing in adolescent mental health care. This in-person event will explore how non-clinical interventions — like arts engagement and community connection — can improve health outcomes, reduce loneliness, and reshape how we approach care for young people. This partnership was born out of the Arts & Intersections Collaborative, a Catalyst-led initiative designed to explore how the arts can intersect with other sectors—like health, education, and workforce development—to address complex social challenges. The collaboration helped lay the groundwork for bringing this initiative to San Diego, with a specific focus on supporting youth mental health. The result is a first-of-its-kind pilot in San Diego, introducing arts-based social prescribing as a new model for improving adolescent mental health in the region. Attendees will hear directly from the leaders of this groundbreaking initiative and learn how cross-sector partnerships are fueling a movement to advance whole-person health in San Diego and beyond. The event will include a panel discussion and Q&A featuring Chris Appleton, CEO of Art Pharmacy, Matt D’Arrigo of the Clare Rose Foundation, and Dr. Priti Ojha of San Ysidro Health Center to discuss the impact of social prescribing and the new partnership within San Ysidro Health. From the Prohibition through the Second Big War, the glory days of Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington are being recaptured humbly and with humor in San Diego by four musicians who know it don’t mean a thing without that swing: Beston Barnett - Guitar, Vocals Pete Miesner - Guitar, Lead Vocals Matt Gill - Clarinet Paul Hormick - Upright Bass The Zzymzzy Quartet takes its name from a hypothetical “last word” in the dictionary: thus, their tagline, “The Last Word in Gypsy Swing.” The “Gypsy” sound is heard in much of the guitar work, heavily influenced by the stylings of French Gypsy jazz legend Django Reinhardt, but the group also pays tribute to the Swing Era with classic standards and idiomatic originals. Since the Zzymzzy Quartet came together in 2004, they’ve played dances, parties, weddings, festivals, art openings, and events throughout Southern California to unanimous enthusiasm, carving out a name for themselves as a tasty dance band and a classy addition to every wedding. In 2017, ART HURTS Records released their second CD, "Petite Fleur" which, on top of inspired playing and elegant arrangements, features cameos from a variety of beloved San Diego musicians.
