Get ready to team up with your friends and MCASD educators in an awesome showdown for the fate of the museum–an art collision between Heroes and Monsters. Spend the week designing your own Hero and Monster inspired by the Museum's collection: Learn how to use art for good by developing your own art superpowers. Create a persona by dawning masks and capes influenced by Nick Cave. Use John Baldessari's conceptual powers to fight "Boring Art." Schedule Day 1: Start the week by imagining your superhero, or good-monster alter-ego, and its artful superpowers! Then, create your helmet. Day 2: Make your shield and cape and create dice to guide your way. The BBC World Service is the BBC’s international broadcaster, delivering a wide range of programmes and services on radio, TV, and digitally, globally.

    It reaches a weekly audience of around 318 million people (BBC Global Audience Measure 2023) and is one of the UK’s most important cultural exports – informing and inspiring the lives of people across the globe, helping them make sense of the world we live in.

    The BBC World Service operates in 42 languages, including English, and has the global insight and expertise to give audiences a truly international news service with BBC News journalists and supporting staff in 73 cities across 59 countries.

    BBC World Service is funded primarily from the UK licence fee. In 2016 the UK Government awarded it a £291 million grant administered by UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), for a four-year programme of modernisation. In 2021, the FCDO provided £94.4m to help the BBC World Service build on its work upholding global democratic values through accurate, impartial and independent news reporting. This included £8 million in additional investment to tackle disinformation and further improve the BBC’s digital offer to audiences. In 2023, the UK government awarded the BBC World Service a one-off grant of £20m over two years (2023/24 and 2024/25) to further support the language services.

North City is joining forces with local businesses and Craft Collective—a San Diego–based nonprofit dedicated to hands-on arts programming—to host a family-friendly event filled with pop culture, creativity, and community connection. Rumors suggest that emissaries from a well-organized galactic force will also be stopping by. This all-ages event blends hands-on fun with a bit of cosmic flair—perfect for families, fans, and curious adventurers alike. Expect surprise appearances from a galaxy far, far away, interactive inflatables and games, and themed food and drinks from North City restaurants. Kids can get creative at the Padawan Crafting Academy, where they’ll build lightsabers and fold origami droids under the guidance of Craft Collective (suggested donation). Adventurers can also take on the Jedi Training Grounds, featuring a bounce house and interactive space-themed games. The North City Cantina will feature galactic-inspired menu items, and guests can pick up a Galactic Passport to collect stamps from participating businesses and enter to win raffle prizes.
