Calling all book lovers!! Please join the Friends of the Library at Solana Beach, Cardiff, Encinitas and Rancho Santa Fe in the first annual Coast and Ranch Book Crawl on February 10-17, 2024. We are all nonprofit organizations, staffed by volunteers and our proceeds support our local libraries. The Coast and Ranch Book Crawl is a great way to explore these wonderful used bookstores discovering what makes each store so unique and special. From timeless classics to contemporary bestsellers, there's something for every avid reader, collector or casual book enthusiast. You can pick up your Passport at any of the bookstores and shop to your heart’s content during the week of February 10-17 2024. Each store will be offering specials to those who participate in the crawl. At each location you visit, you will receive a stamp in your Passport. Specials at each bookstore will be offered until your passport is stamped. After you receive your last stamp, please turn in your Passport at your final location and you will be entered into a drawing for several great prizes. San Diego Civic Dance Arts (SDCDA) has often been viewed as the City of San Diego Parks and Recreation Department’s “best-kept secret.” For over 80 years, through the use of public, nonprofit and volunteer partnerships, SDCDA has provided an accessible, affordable world-class dance program to San Diego. For the past 25 years, Andrea Feier, a Julliard trained dancer herself, has led SDCDA. Collage is held over the first three weekends of February. “I love how the City makes dance accessible and affordable to anyone who wishes to participate,” said Andrea. “The passion of the dance staff who have found their calling teaching for this program and have made it their life's work teaching for Civic Dance Arts is incredible. Working with dance staff and other City workers dedicated to making a difference in people’s lives is inspiring.” The passion her staff have for the program is evident. The Theatre School @ North Coast Rep presents the heartbreaking romance, "Failure: A Love Story" as its next student production! By the end of 1928, all three Fail sisters will be dead — expiring in reverse order, youngest to oldest, from blunt object to the head, disappearance, and finally consumption. Tuneful songs, and a whimsical chorus follow the story of Nelly, Jenny June, and Gerty as they live out their lives above the family clock repair shop near the Chicago River, before their time unexpectedly runs out. A magical, musical fable where, in the end, the power of love is far greater than any individual’s successes or failures. Director Benjamin Cole is eager to share the talents of his student cast. “The show offers some unique challenges for creative staging with characters like Front Door, Moses the ball python, December and Mae the feral monk parakeets, and even Cuckoo Clock,” Cole reveals. “We’re exploring storytelling in a way not often seen in youth theatre,” he insists. Assistant Director Steve Smith adds, “This incredibly emotional script is both tragic and beautiful. It is a treat to work on with our students!” The show runs a sweet 90 minutes with no intermission and hopes to be the perfect date night for Valentine’s week.
