Each year, The House of Lebanon hosts their annual Lawn Program. The Entertainment is provided by different folk dance groups every year that will perform Folk Dances in regional native costumes. In addition to folkloric dance, local Lebanese artist will perform tradition song, music and poetry depicting the Lebanese heritage and Culture. The House of Lebanon serves a wide selection of traditional Lebanese “Meza”. Food will include Hummus, Tabouli, Spinach Pies, Kibbeh, Falafel, stuffed Grape Leaves, Moussakaa, Kafta, Chicken and Lamb Shawarma. The program ends with a brilliantly colorful and delightful semi-staging of Ravel’s immortal and much-loved comic fantasy about a naughty child whose toys come to life to punish him. In this performance, specially created for San Diego, the many characters portrayed by the singers in this story will be reflected in animated illustrations projected on to the beautiful new walls of Jacobs Music Center. Music, words and images work in harmony to tell the story. This year marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of Ravel, and our production of "L’enfant et les sortilèges" is this orchestra’s homage to the man who created one of the most beautiful depictions of childhood in all of music. Famed for his attacking, take-no-prisoners playing style, Cuban-born pianist and composer Alfredo Rodriguez has a back story that has become the stuff of legend: the kid who, without constant access to a piano, practiced on scales he’d painted on the family dinner table; who, aged 19, represented Cuba in the International Solo Piano Competition at the 2016 Montreux Jazz Festival, just happening to entertain a crowd that included Quincy Jones, who was so bowled over he encouraged his permanent relocation from embargoed Cuba to America. Ho Ho Ho… Can you hear those jingle bells? This year SANTA IS BACK for our annual Little Italy Tree Lighting and Christmas Village on Saturday, December 6 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.! Transforming into a winter wonderland with Christmas twinkle lights down all the streets, our beautiful urban neighborhood will be adorned with 10-foot tall nutcrackers and kinetic tree holiday displays on street corners, Christmas songs and more. Family, friends, and neighbors are invited to come together to experience true holiday joy at this family-friendly event and enjoy the neighborhood’s festive décor—including two Christmas trees, Joshua Hubert’s Aurora tree at Piazza Basilone and the permanent 25-foot tree at Piazza della Famiglia, seasonal vendors, live music and entertainment, holiday treats, a traditional Italian tree lighting ceremony, and this year SANTA IS BACK to grant everyone’s Christmas wishes! You can also enjoy our Christmas Village, located on India Street between W. Cedar and W. Pieces include Turina’s shimmering "Ciclo Plateresco," Jennifer Higdon’s mesmerizing "Pale Yellow," Aaron Alter’s contemplative "Introspective Blues #1," Andrés Martín’s powerful "Synchronicity". The title piece, Miguel del Águila’s "Submerged" (for flute, cello, and harp), is inspired by Alfonsina Storni's poetry, and it celebrates her life, evoking the quiet, creative depths where artists retreat to dream, reflect, and begin anew. The program culminates in a powerful finale: the unveiling of Hugo Crosthwaite’s 2025 Camarada art commission, inspired by Andrés Martín’s "Tango Bajo el Agua," which will be performed alongside the artwork. This deeply personal piece explores the dual nature of water as both life-giving and potentially destructive. Martín invites us to consider a striking metaphor: if we can learn to tango underwater, we can find beauty even in the most unlikely or challenging places.
