  • You're Invited! On the first Friday of every month, the Arts District in Liberty Station is packed with ways to enjoy the best in life! Whether your visit includes a waterfront walk, a bite & drink from one of the great restaurants or market, or a bit of fun shopping, San Diego Craft Collective will always have a free, family-friendly craft for kids that evening from 5-6 p.m. Each month the craft changes, so pop in while you're visiting and get crafty! July's Craft: Button Art This project is great for children of all ages. Young children may need help from an adult. From 5 - 6p.m., Free Kids Craft hosted outdoors in our back lot. From 4 - 7p.m., we'll also be hosting an Open House, Garden Tours and a Community Mending event. Check that out on the calendar! We can't wait to see you there!
  • Learn the ancient fiber craft of weaving your own fabric using a sustainably harvested wooden Rigid Heddle Loom and soft natural fibers. In his hands-on workshop, instructor Jeanine Ertl will teach you everything you need to know to warp and weave on your own. This class is perfect for anyone who’s been curious about weaving beyond a lap loom and wants to learn the warping and weaving processes. We’ll dive into fiber & fabric and demystify the process of getting set up (otherwise known as warping a loom), weaving, and finally, finishing and removing a woven fiber good from the loom! And, you’ll go home with handwoven fabric in-hand. Length of the final piece will depend on the individual’s own pace. All materials included. Scholarships, Military, and sibling discounts are available & Homeschoolers welcome. No experience necessary. Ages 14+ welcome! In this workshop you’ll learn: • How a Rigid Heddle Loom works; • How to Plan a Textile (e.g. sett, basic pattern & choosing fiber, etc.) • How to Warp a Rigid Heddle; • How to Weave; • How to Remove your Woven; • And, How to Finish a freshly Handwoven Textile. Option: Students will weave on my Ashford looms in-class. The instructor will have a variety of Ashford looms (Sample It and Knitters Looms) present for purchase in class. Composting on your farm, ranch, or large property is an ideal way to manage crop residues, manures, and other organic waste while creating a stellar soil amendment. During this three-week course, we will address the unique strategies, challenges, and opportunities that arise through medium-scale composting. This course does not address typical residential composting or large-scale commercial composting. It is intended for those mid-sized systems that fall in between, particularly horse ranches and small farms. Course Dates: Saturday, June 10, 10 A.M. – 1:30 P.M. Saturday, June 17, 10 A.M.– 1:30 P.M. Saturday, June 24, 10 A.M. – 1:30 P.M. In this course, we’ll cover the following topics: - Neighbor-friendly composting best management practices, scaled to farms - Compost basics, e.g. recipe considerations, feedstocks, and bulk density - Compost management, e.g. site considerations, odor, dust, and rodent/vector control - What is permissible on farms without permits - Composting/water saving benefits Residents of unincorporated County of San Diego will receive preferential registration. All others will be placed on a waitlist and apprised of space available 1-2 weeks before the start of the course. BEFORE REGISTERING, please enter your address here to check your residency. You can select the County of San Diego Residents ticket option ONLY if your jurisdiction boundary result is “S.D. COUNTY.” All others must select the waitlist option.
