Rebecca Jade will perform selections invoking wintertime traditions, including songs from her most recent release, Just Another Christmas Album. Making the event extra special she will be joined by musical friends; Angela Chatelain Avila, Joshua Taylor, Darryl Walker and Daneen Wilburn. Jade is a powerhouse performer whose vocal range and stage presence have made her one of the brightest rising stars touring the world today. At home with singing soul, R&B, jazz, blues or whatever a session might need, just a few highlights in her stellar career would include winning eight San Diego Music Awards, performing with Elton John at the Oscars, doing a Grammy Salute to Prince, and recording with a broad range of artists, from Jason Mraz to Karl Denson. The concert will top another amazing year for Jade, which has seen her tour Greece with Dave Koz & Friends, as well as perform at major events around the globe, from Portugal’s Algarve Smooth Jazz Festival to working with Sheila E. and Gloria Estefan. Jade curated this show’s special selection of musical friends. “I wanted to highlight San Diego artists,” she said. “I felt, especially given the occasion of the season, that a homegrown show like this would be a great way to share the stage with these gifted performers and show what the San Diego music scene has to offer.” Look for some special collaborations throughout the night. “This is the first time I’ve put on a holiday concert event,” Jade said. “I picked the date on purpose. December 28 falls in that wonderful time between when we open our presents and the New Year, everybody’s spirits are up. This concert will hopefully capture some of that feeling.” For more information visit: sycuancasino.yapsody.com Stay Connected on Facebook and Instagram
  • Learn to wet felt soap! August 10, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Join this 2-hour workshop and learn the ancient art of wet felting — the process of transforming loose wool into felted fabric. This textile art technique has been used in the making of rugs, homes (yurts) and clothing for centuries. And in this class, each student will make a felted soap. What are felted soaps? A felted soap is the union of a washcloth and a bar of soap. The wool wrapped around the soap becomes a seamless piece of felt and helps prolong the life of the soap while offering a gentle exfoliation of the skin. The instructor will take you step by step through the felting process, starting with creating a color palette and design using a wide selection of dyed merino wool. Each student will be making 1 felted soap to take home. If time and interests permit, additional soaps will be available to make for $10 each (paid cash to instructor) or to take and make at home. The soaps used for this class are made with all natural ingredients, scented with essential oils and made in the US. For allergies or soap preference, students can bring their own soap to wrap. No experience necessary. Ages 8+ welcome. All the materials and tools you need are provided to create 1 felted soap. • Military and sibling discounts. • Scholarships available. • Homeschool vendor funds accepted. • If this class is full, join the Interest List.
