Learn to create these stunning pieces of art that intertwine Japanese culture and the changing of the seasons. By end of the semester, you will have learned to design beautiful and professional looking arrangements for both everyday and special occasions. Escondido Bead & Design is happening June 13–15 at the California Center for the Arts! This exciting new event brings together artists, artisans, beadmakers, designers, and established bead merchants for a weekend filled with creativity, inspiration, and one-of-a-kind shopping. The show features a curated marketplace filled with handmade jewelry, artisan clothing, beads, gemstones, vintage finds, and artistic accessories. This exhibition will explore art that has emerged from the surf-culture lifestyle and surfing’s influence on artists. Everyone who has experienced the feeling of riding a wave understands just how hard it is to describe that incredible sensation, referred to as “stoke”. It seems that only through creative self-expression can surfer-artists capture the essence of stoke and the inspiration that can be found between the surfer and the wave. Artists who surf may take this creative energy in many directions and may explore subjects outside of surfing and surf culture. This joint exhibition will feature a variety of media, from traditional art making methods to works in resin, murals, surfboards, graphic art, sculpture, or fabric, all with the goal to convey the creative power that all artists experience, on or off the wave. Join us for "Cathedral of Light: Harvest Glow," a deeply restorative sound healing event in San Diego, set within the majestic sanctuary of St. Paul’s Cathedral. On Saturday, September 6 at 3 p.m., step into a 90-minute immersive sound bath designed to harmonize your mind, body, and spirit with the shifting season. Guided by seven gifted musicians, sound practitioners, and artists, you’ll be immersed in the soothing vibrations of crystal singing bowls, angelic vocals, gongs, chimes, drums, flutes, handpan, didgeridoo, and more. This powerful blend of sound therapy supports emotional balance, deep relaxation, and energetic alignment. Set against the stunning backdrop of the cathedral’s architecture and candlelit ambiance, this wellness experience is a soulful invitation to slow down, reset, and reconnect with yourself in community. A curated evening of live dance, AAPI dance makers present works that tell stories of “Becoming Asian American”. This year's invited choreographers work primarily in modern and contemporary dance forms. Each come from different cultural backgrounds and are inspirational and accomplished artists in their own right. Together, they will present an evening of profound sharing and deep questioning. We hope audiences will come away with a richer understanding and appreciation of our AAPI communities and identities. Join us for Studio Arts, when OMA transforms into an artist’s studio, offering skill-building workshops led by distinguished professor and arts educator Robin Douglas. “The Flash and Sparkle of Mickalene Thomas” Sequins, buttons, beads, collages, and stencils are the trademark of Thomas. We will glue certain small objects in some areas of the painting to emphasize the passion for sparkle in our lives. These joyful creations will speak to the heart.
