Scott Terrell, conductor San Diego Symphony Orchestra The San Diego Symphony Orchestra will present Disney's "Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas" Live-to-Film featuring a screening of Disney’s timeless holiday classic with GRAMMY®-winning composer Danny Elfman’s musical score performed live to the film. The concert will be led by conductor Scott Terrell. Based on an original poem and characters created by Tim Burton, the film was first released in 1993 as "The Nightmare Before Christmas." Directed by Henry Selick (James and the Giant Peach), the film follows the earnest-but-misguided adventures of Jack Skellington, Halloween Town's beloved Pumpkin King. Bored with the same old scare-and-scream routine of Halloween, Jack longs to try something new. Convinced that he can spread the joy of Christmas and against the advice of Sally, a caring and clever ragdoll, Jack enlists three mischievous trick-or-treaters – Lock, Shock, and Barrel – to kidnap Santa Claus. Transforming into a winter wonderland with Christmas twinkle lights down all the streets, our beautiful urban neighborhood will be adorned with 10-foot tall nutcrackers and kinetic tree holiday displays on street corners, Christmas songs and more. Family, friends, and neighbors are invited to come together to experience true holiday joy at this family-friendly event and enjoy the neighborhood’s festive décor—including two Christmas trees, Joshua Hubert’s Aurora tree at Piazza Basilone and the permanent 25-foot tree at Piazza della Famiglia, seasonal vendors, live music and entertainment, holiday treats, a traditional Italian tree lighting ceremony, and this year SANTA IS BACK to grant everyone’s Christmas wishes! TrueCare will host its annual Flourish & Nourish Health Fair and Breast Milk Drive on Saturday, August 9, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the new TrueCare Vista Way Health Campus (3998 Vista Way, Oceanside, CA). This free, family-friendly event celebrates community wellness with a special focus on maternal and children's health. The day will include a variety of exciting activities and supportive services for the whole family. Highlights include a food distribution, a backpack giveaway to help children prepare for the upcoming school year, music from a live DJ, a blood drive in support of the San Diego Blood Bank, free dental screenings with fluoride varnish, and general health screenings.
