Stephen P. Huyler, acclaimed art historian and author, will present his new memoir, "Transformed by India: A Life." Huyler’s captivating memoir chronicles over five decades of immersion in Indian culture, beginning with his arrival on his twentieth birthday when he pedaled a bicycle rickshaw across the Indian border in 1971. Few foreigners have traveled as extensively throughout India, documenting the country’s rich traditions, sacred arts, and diverse communities from maharajahs to village artisans. "Transformed by India: A Life" has received advance praise from distinguished figures including His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who wrote the foreword, and Dr. Shashi Tharoor, former UN diplomat and member of the Indian Parliament, who contributed the preface. About Stephen: Stephen P. Huyler is an art historian, cultural anthropologist, photographer and author conducting a lifelong survey of India’s sacred art and crafts and their meanings within rural societies. He has spent an average of four months each year during the last five decades traveling in Indian villages documenting craftsmanship and contemporary traditions. Huyler has served as a consultant and/or guest curator for more than twenty-five museum exhibitions of Indian art, including shows at the Smithsonian’s Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, the American Museum of Natural History, the Museum of International Folk Art (Santa Fe), the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, the Houston Museum of Natural Science and Mingei International Museum (San Diego). He is acknowledged as a leading photographer of India with an invaluable and extensive image archive. Margaritaville Hotel San Diego is introducing a new seasonal experience with “Yo Ho Ho-liday Tavern,” a holiday pirate pop-up running from Saturday, November 22 through Wednesday, December 31 at LandShark Bar & Grill. Designed to offer an immersive holiday experience, the pop-up will feature festive cocktails, pirate-inspired décor layered with nautical holiday touches, pirate appearances, and a curated menu of seasonal food and beverage specials. From late November through the end of December, LandShark Bar & Grill will be fully transformed into a pirate-inspired holiday oasis that blends classic seasonal touches with that ‘high seas’ atmosphere. Guests will discover a unique twist, where pirate lore meets festive cheer and twinkling ornaments adorn treasure chests. Adding to the festive ambiance, live pirate character appearances will take place every Saturday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. beginning in December. These interactive visits invite guests to engage with the pirate, who will entertain with lively stories, holiday-themed antics, and photo opportunities. Throughout the pop-up, guests will enjoy special holiday-themed cocktails served alongside a selection of seasonal menu items. The seasonal menu will include limited-time items crafted by the LandShark culinary team, available exclusively during the pop-up’s run. These pirate-themed creations include The Kraken, a savory mix of fried calamari, spiced pork belly, banh mi veggies, braised purple cabbage and sambal aioli on a squid ink bun, as well as Davy Jone’s Linguini made with squid ink linguini tossed in a lemon caper butter sauce with cremini mushroom 'skulls' and blackened shrimp.
