  • Catherin and Robert Palmer Gallery 20th Annual SDSU Art Council Scholarship Exhibition The Athenaeum Art Center is proud to present an exhibition of artwork by graduate and upper-division undergraduate students of the School of Art and Design at San Diego State University. Since 2002, the SDSU Art Council has awarded scholarships to a select number of students who, in addition to the Council's financial support, receive the opportunity to present their artwork at the Athenaeum. This year’s scholarship recipients and exhibiting artists are Carolina Danu, Sarah Garcia, Kaitlyn Hulslander, Harper Pam, and Bryce Wall. The exhibition can be viewed in the Catherine and Robert Palmer Gallery at the Athenaeum Art Center (1955 Julian Avenue, San Diego, CA 92113) during open gallery hours, Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and every second Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m., during the Barrio Art Crawl, and by appointment.   • Printmaking is an artistic process based on the principle of transferring images from a matrix onto another surface, most often paper or fabric. Traditional printmaking techniques include woodcut, etching, engraving, and lithography, while modern artists have expanded available techniques to include screenprinting. Participants will have the opportunity to create multiple prints of different colors and participate in aspects of “social practice,” in which artworks serve to create community spaces through sharing and trading. We kindly ask that adults actively participate in this art activity alongside any child under the age of 11. Refunds are not available for no-shows, but a credit will be provided for a future class at Studio HQ if you cancel at least 24 hours before the class. During these special hours, the Museum opens with adjusted sound and lighting, fewer visitors, and designated sensory-break zones. Our interactive art installations are available with modifications to support diverse sensory needs, calming spaces, and optional noise-reducing headphones. Trained staff are on-site to support families and ensure a comfortable experience for all. 2025 Sensory Friendly Morning Date: Saturday, May 31 Due to limited capacity, advance registration is highly encouraged. Guests may stay and enjoy the Museum for the remainder of the day. Regular admission and parking rates apply.
