In this class, we will draw from classical and modern art masters who worked on toned paper. You will learn how to use the tone of the paper plus white to create dynamic and expressive drawings. This course will sharpen your skills in rendering form, value, and texture. Basic composition, anatomy, and perspective will also be taught. Materials: You do not need everything on this list. Buy only the medium or supplies you want to work with. Pan Pastel: black and white, two triangle-shaped wands, one for each. Charcoal: Black or Sanguine charcoal pencils such as General’s 2B and 4B; compressed charcoal sticks or a small stick of soft vine charcoal. General’s White Charcoal Pencil (extra—General’s White Drawing stick, White Conte Crayon, or White Nu Pastel). Blending stump, small and medium; sharpener and/or craft knife and sanding pad. Kneaded eraser, Tombow MONO zero Eraser (extra—White Vinyl Eraser, Faber-Castell Perfection Eraser #7056 and 7058). Tides of Tranquility - Sound Bath & Group Reiki Join us for Tides of Tranquility, a soothing sound bath and group reiki experience set against the serene backdrop of Mission Bay. As the sun begins to set, we’ll flow with the rhythm of the water, releasing what no longer serves and inviting in renewal, peace, and balance. Led by a Certified Sound Healer: I'm a certified sound bath healer, Reiki practitioner, and trauma-informed wellness guide. I’ll guide you through a relaxing journey using crystal bowls and ambient healing sounds to help calm the nervous system and connect with your inner self. What to Bring: This is an outdoor event please bring anything that will help you feel cozy and safe, including: - Yoga mat - Pillow or bolster - Blanket - Eye mask or scarf - Jacket or layers (it may get chilly near the water) - Water and an open heart Location Details: The exact Mission Bay location will be emailed to you after registration. Sunday, June 22, 9 p.m. - 11:30 a.m. This 2.5-hour workshop will advance your skills and you will carve a small bowl. Each student will be provided a wooden blank ready to power carve. The instructor will show how to form a bowl with power carving tools, as well as creating a unique and personal design to implement into each project. Material fee: $5 payable to the instructor at the start of the workshop. This is an intermediate Power Carving workshop. Students must have completed either the Intro to Power Carving | Sculptural Art &/or Intro to Power Carving | Carving a Spoon before enrolling in this workshop. This workshop is appropriate for ages 18 and older. Prior experience is mandatory.
