Bach Collegium San Diego Presents Knock out Sounds with Reginald Mobley The Return of Bach to Bop Bach Collegium San Diego (BCSD), one of the country’s leading baroque ensembles, is performing with countertenor d'Amore Reginald Mobley who showcases the thin lines between the worlds of baroque and jazz. The repertoire, from J.S. Bach and Purcell to Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald, explores the world of improvisation, ornamentation, pulsating bass lines, and most importantly, groove. “When exploring the world of Baroque music and where it intersects with jazz, who better to lead the way than one of the great countertenors of this generation, Reginald Mobley,” said BCSD Musical Director Ruben Valenzuela. “We're incredibly fortunate to have him back with BCSD after the success of Bach to Bop from a few years ago. Get ready...from Purcell and Bach to Sarah Vaughan and Duke Ellington!" BCSD partnered with local schools to develop an education curriculum surrounding this program and the similarities and differences (and historical timeline of the genres) of baroque and jazz music. The pilot program is in development but BCSD is planning on having the students perform a piece or two on the concert program as a culmination of this special program. Bach Collegium San Diego engages audiences with accessible, historically informed performances and educational programs featuring repertoire from the Renaissance, Baroque, and early Classical eras. The ensemble was founded in 2003 by Music Director Ruben Valenzuela to diversify the musical offerings of the San Diego community. Concert Hour is a music enrichment series presented on the campus of Palomar College for our students, staff, and community by the Palomar College Performing Arts Department. She began her violin studies with Mischa Mischakoff .The Detroit Symphony and the Music Study Club of Metropolitan Detroit sponsored her education with Mischakoff. Ms. Dreiling graduated from Indiana University where she studied with Josef Gingold. She holds a BM in Violin Performance from Indiana University and MA from United States International University with an emphasis on Orchestral Performance. Ms. Dreiling was an invited semi- finalist in the European Union Conducting Competition in 2018. She has attended masterclasses with Zoltan Rozsnyai, Gunther Neuhold,, Neil Thomson and Dr. Scott Weiss and Philip Greenberg. Ms. Dreiling was the founding Artistic Director and Conductor of Classics for Kids and currently is Artistic Director and the Emeritus Conductor of YPO Festival Orchestra, Soloists Ensemble and Soloists Sinfonietta and was recently awarded 3nd prize in the American Prize Competition in the conductor of youth orchestra division. Rooted in our strong bonds and love of dance, we dreamed of what transcenDANCE could be for ourselves, each other, and our community. As we reflect on this origin story, we have invited our current CREATE students to explore what grounds them, what nourishes them, and what dreams they want to bring to life.
