The Frontmen – Larry Stewart (Restless Heart), Richie McDonald (formerly of Lonestar), and Tim Rushlow (formerly of Little Texas) THE FRONTMEN – comprised of three former lead singers, Larry Stewart (Restless Heart), Richie McDonald (Lonestar) and Tim Rushlow (Little Texas) – is country music’s hottest new supergroup. It must’ve been meant to be.” Stewart’s Restless Heart launched in 1984 with their self-titled debut album and went on to collect eight No. 1 hits and sing-along favorites, including “The Bluest Eyes in Texas,” “I’ll Still Be Loving You,” “Why Does It Have to Be (Wrong or Right),” “Wheels,” “Fast Movin’ Train” and “A Tender Lie.” They were named Top Vocal Group by the Academy of Country Music in 1989. Rushlow’s "Little Texas" kicked off in 1991 with Top 10 hits “Some Guys Have All the Love” and “First Time for Everything,” then followed up with its debut album of the same name. Subsequent hits include ”God Blessed Texas,” “Kick a Little,” “My Love,” “What Might Have Been” and “Amy’s Back in Austin.” Little Texas won the Academy of Country Music’s Top Vocal Group in 1993. McDonald joined Lonestar in 1992, and the group achieved nine No. 1 songs, including: “No News,” “Come Cryin’ to Me,” “What About Now,” “I’m Already There,” “My Front Porch Looking In,” “Mr. Mom” and “Amazed” — an eight-week No. 1 song and the most popular country song of 1999. “Amazed” was the Academy of Country Music’s Single and Song of the Year in 1999, and Lonestar was the Top Vocal Group for the ACM and the Country Music Association in 2001. During periods of downtime over the years, and THE FRONTMEN organically built a concept they’ve been working toward for more than a decade. McDonald and Stewart first connected when they played a radio show in Louisiana. McDonald broached the idea with Stewart: three lead singers, one band and nothing but hits. Rushlow joined soon after, and the trio went on an extended international tour of military bases. The soldiers’ reaction affirmed what they already thought – people want to hear their songs.” It’s these iconic songs that have been a part of people’s lives over the past 20 or 30 years, and we saw the effect that it had on these men and women fighting for our freedom,” McDonald said. “We knew we had to do it.” THE FRONTMEN played sporadic shows together over the years while each continued with their various bands. When the pandemic struck, McDonald reevaluated how he wanted to spend his time. Stewart had recently stepped away from Restless Heart, and Rushlow shifted focus to THE FRONTMEN. With that, their side project became their main gig. “We jumped in with both feet,” McDonald said. “I always tease Larry during the show and tell him, ‘I grew up listening to your music.’ He’ll laugh and say, ‘Man, you make me feel really old.’ Larry and Restless Heart really opened the door for Lonestar and Little Texas. We really respect one another. It’s just a blast to be on stage every night to sing our hits and, and to harmonize with one another.” Each man has a turn in the spotlight splitting vocal duties but all three sing non-stop throughout the entire set showcasing harmonies that only this combination of talent could achieve. “Splitting the lead singing up keeps our vocal chords in tip top shape for all the harmonies in the set,” Stewart said. Audiences receive a night of boot-scootin,’ heart-popping nostalgia. In 2023, THE FRONTMEN signed a major record deal with BBR Music Group / BMG Nashville. Stewart, McDonald and Rushlow, all major hit songwriters, released their debut album, THE FRONTMEN, in early 2024 with multi-genre musical heavyweight producer Mickey Jack Cones helming the project. The Frontmen’s debut self-titled album features nine original songs, as well as three Lonestar, Little Texas and Restless Heart No. 1 hits, re-recorded Frontmen-style. Presented by the San Diego River Artists’ Alliance Drop-in Collage workshop at the Town and Country Park where kids (and adults) assemble pre-cut pieces into river-themed mini art cards. This workshop allows participants to take away a beautiful handmade card, and in the process, they will learn about the San Diego River and reflect on their relationship with it. This workshop is part of the Ebb and Flow Pop-up art show, located on the North side of Town and Country resort by the river, Fashion Valley Road and River Park Drive. Painting using imagery in art is a fun way to tell a visual story. We use black and white photocopies of ancestors (found or real) as the underlying source to paint. This is a way of creating expressiveness with a subject built in. This way of art making can stand up to any art form found in galleries. In this workshop, learn how to incorporate painted photocopies in your work. Also, learn how to properly adhere paper seamlessly (to a canvas or board) without causing bubbles or creases. Students walk away with several paintings and a good understanding of this fun process. Materials: The $40 fee paid to the instructor at first class includes images, mediums, varnish, and 8" x 10" canvases and use of brushes, palette knife, markers, burnishing tool, gloves, paints. Not provided: aprons, palette paper, paper towels and water cans. Feel free to bring your own brushes, paints, palette paper, or any of the above-listed supplies. You may bring your own black and white images to fit 8" x 10" canvases or email jpegs of your images to Lisa to prepare. Images need to be sent to Lisa (lisabebi@gmail.com) by June 14. If you prefer to work with larger than 8" x 10", you must send your selected jpgs to Lisa two weeks prior to the workshop (by June 3) so she can send them out for processing. T3 Triple Threat’s Summer 2025 camp participants will rehearse and perform MTI’s Broadway Junior Revue “Raise Your Voice”. T3 partners with the City of San Diego and the North Park Recreation Center, providing training in dance, voice, and acting to produce well-rounded performers. Our Summer 2025 camp is a 7-week theatrical production culminating in a multi-performance run of “Raise Your Voice”. Working with a life model, students will learn to identify and depict the core “gesture” of any pose. Emphasis is on short poses with the goal of increasing our ability to capture the body in motion. By focusing on the “verb” of the pose, and not the “noun,” we will explore the storytelling potential of the figure. This is an excellent class for those interested in animation and the entertainment arts or for anyone looking to inject more dynamism into their life-drawing practice. Drawing from their latest works, “Freeset” and “Loka,” the authors will explore how speculative fiction can address timely societal issues, including identity, memory and technology. The conversation will be moderated and will take place on Wednesday, May 28, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Seuss Room at Geisel Library. Admission is free and open to the public with required registration. A UC San Diego alumna with degrees in psychology and visual arts, her writing explores memory, identity and the cost of utopia. S.B. Divya, MEng ’00 is a Hugo- and Nebula-nominated author whose work bridges hard science and imaginative storytelling. Her novels include “Machinehood,” “Meru” and “Loka,” which examine themes such as automation, cultural identity and artificial intelligence. A former electrical engineer with degrees in computational neuroscience and signal processing from UC San Diego, Divya’s fiction often reflects her technical background and challenges conventional genre boundaries. To me life is about emotional expression and having a safe space to embody that. So I wanted to join these two elements together to create a space of safety and community." Art includes works from emerging artists in the North County, including 13 recent mixed media paintings by Laurie Batter of Carlsbad. Fresh, delicious appetizers by Savory Moment will be served. Batter, one of the featured artists, says she was always creating art as a child and teenager. She had good fortune to be born into a family who encouraged her creativity, and a grade school program that exposed her to the Masters and a college degree in Art History. After a 40-year hiatus from art while she ran her boutique PR & Marketing firm, and the surprise blessing of the Pandemic, she has renewed her connection to art, creating through multiple mediums and subjects. Her home studio is chock full of colorful paints, and every art supply you could dream about. She actively explores her creativity through classes at Mira Costa College, plus several renowned workshops including Nicholas Wilton’s Art2Life Creative Visioning Program (CVP), Art2Life Spark, and Jenny Nelson. Laurie is a member of AGNC (Artist Group of North County) and the Oceanside Museum of Art Artist Alliance. Her work is focused mostly on small stories about humanity that touch the human soul.
