  • Breathe in the sea air at Culture Brewing Solano this December as Caitlin from Grainbakers leads a spent grain breadmaking class and Tony hosts a VIP talk amid craft beer, coastal light, and creative energy. At the close of the brewer’s day, we will use the brewery's fresh spent grain to make beautiful whole-grain artisan bread. Guests will make the Grainbakers Spent Grain Artisan Bread Dough.   • Create a unique Bandsaw Box! Sunday, December 21, from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Bandsaw boxes are beginner-friendly and have a variety of uses. Once you make one you can make many! In this 7-hour workshop, students will create a box made from a single block of wood using the bandsaw. Students will learn to design and create organic forms on the bandsaw while observing wood grain and learning to make cross cuts and rip cuts. We will cover shop safety and methods for cutting and gluing your box. Students will also learn sanding best practices and how to achieve a perfect finish using beeswax. We welcome all makers, from beginners to advanced. Materials are provided. We recommend students bring your own eye protection, ear protection & apron. Aprons for sale here. No experience necessary.   • Upcycle Your Own Item! Learn to Carve & Block Print! Thursday, December 4, 6-8 p.m. Have you ever wanted to print your own designs on shirts and bags?! In this 2-hour workshop, you’ll learn the art of relief printing! Students will learn to design and carve their own linoleum stamp and block print an image onto fabric. We invite you to upcycle fabric from your own wardrobe or home for this class, so grab a well-loved favorite item or something that could use a fun refresh and begin imagining some fun designs you might carve and print! Because this class focuses on upcycling, please bring your own fabric to block print on. This can be clothing, a tote bag or something else. You may bring more than one item and the instructor can help you choose which to print on in class. We recommend you avoid fabrics that are especially thin, like satins and silks. All other tools and materials needed for this class will be supplied for use. In this Clay Happy Hour, we’ll create a one-of-a-kind candle holder using simple handbuilding techniques. Perfect for gifting—or keeping to spark your own joy! This session is all about exploring clay in a relaxed, beginner-friendly environment. Whether you’re a beginner or just looking for a new way to unwind, this open studio setting is a great chance to get your hands messy, meet new people, and let your creativity ring out. All materials are provided, and you’ll get to take home your handmade creation after it’s fired and ready for pick-up in 3-4 weeks.   • Learn Plain Weave, Clasped Weft & Hemstitching! Saturday, December 6, from 2-5 p.m. Have you wanted to dive into the mindful, rhythmic, magic of weaving? In this rigid heddle loom workshop, students will learn to weave their own unique handwoven fabric in both plain weave (a classic, simple pattern) and clasped weft (where two wefts interconnect, creating unique patterns). Each student will learn the basics of how the loom works, a variety of simple weaving techniques, plain weave, clasped weft weaving, and finally, hemstitching for a finished piece. Students will weave a length of handwoven fabric of their choosing using the techniques in-class. Looms will be pre-warped in this class and students will weave together on Ashford Looms with 100% cotton fiber for a fiber-friendly afternoon. Beginners, as well as those with weaving experience are welcome. No experience necessary.   • Saturday, December 6, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Join us in the woodshop for this 4-hour brush making workshop! We will cover shop safety and how to use various machines such as the bandsaw, spindle sander, edge sander, and drill press. You will hone your carving skills by adding curves and texture to your piece. We will build upon machine knowledge and cover wood shaping using various hand tools such as rasps, files, spoke shaves, hand planes, chisels, and gouges. We will also discuss design principles, functional applications, the properties of wood, and brush materials such as Tampico fibers. At the end of the workshop, each student will leave with a unique brush to be used in the home, the shop, or as a beautiful sculpture or gift. Materials are provided.
