Open auditions will be held on April 27 from noon - 4 p.m. at the Junior Seau Community Center meeting room to cast actors and crew for a musical, theatrical performance at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido, in June. The play is about a future Solarpunk fantasy world where love, friendship, and betrayal rock the peaceful utopian lifestyle. All ages are welcome, and theatre majors are encouraged to audition. This performance is part of a research project into the benefits of theatrical arts for community health and well-being. The study's results will be published and may provide empirical support for the importance of expenditures in community resources like public broadcasting. About the Artists Lexi Pulido is a boundary-pushing vocalist, composer, guitarist, teacher, and more - known for blending experimental jazz, bossa nova, and theatrical alt-pop. Through projects like the avant-jazz quintet Kilikili, the internationally acclaimed Kate Bush tribute band Baby Bushka, and the genre-blurring Nu Moods jam series, she’s helped shape San Diego’s creative music scene while fostering community through her studio space, Tenam Studio. Hailey Wetzel is a folky, soulful, and jazz-tinged songwriter whose music blends heartfelt storytelling with rich, timeless melodies. Inspired by artists like Alice Phoebe Lou, Olivia Dean, and Maggie Rogers, her sound carries an honest warmth and rhythmic ease. After a cross-country move, she’s spent the past two years rooted in San Diego, becoming an active voice in the local music community. With a voice that feels both intimate and expansive, Hailey crafts songs that linger—emotive, melodic, and deeply human. Claire King is a San Diego based singer-songwriter and spoken word performer whose music draws influence from the folk revival of the 1960s and 70s, indie folk, jazz, and soul. Her sound is infused with the characteristics of artists like Jim Croce, Labbi Siffre, the Fleet Foxes, and Norah Jones. With poetic and whimsical lyrics, much of Claire’s music centers around her connection to nature, architecture, and personal experiences in love and mental health.
