Teens ages 11+ can create a small rug from scratch! Rugs have a deep history as textile art and as objects that create specific spaces. Using handheld tufting machines, participants can create and design their rugs using colorful yarn. This is a two-part class! In this first session, learn how to create and translate a design for the medium, learn the basics of tufting, and begin filling in your designs. Jean Guerrero is a former KPBS reporter with extensive experience covering Latin America. Her KPBS reporting focused on family separations at the border, Trump's wall, deportations, and migrant caravan. Her work was recognized by the San Diego Press Club, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences - Pacific Southwest Chapter, and the Society for Professional Journalists, including "Best Body Of Work" in 2018.

She started her career at the Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones Newswires in Mexico City as a foreign correspondent. She won the PEN/FUSION Emerging Writers Prize in 2016. Her book "Crux: A Cross-Border Memoir" was published in 2018 by One World (Random House).

Jean holds a B.A. in journalism and a minor in neuroscience from the University of Southern California. She also has an MFA degree in creative nonfiction from Goucher College.

Now residing in North San Diego County in California, he regularly plays live fronting the five / six piece Highland Way. Brian has successfully lead Highland Way to some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including the largest indoor theater in the USA, the 3000 seat Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield, the Redlands Bowl 5000 seat amphitheater and many others. When not performing, writing or producing under the ‘Highland Way Productions’ label you can find him shooting world class photos, walking his dog or riding waves. Paul – Lead Fiddle / mandolin / banjo/ bass and most anything with strings. Paul’s been playing fiddle and mandolin for over 50 years. Somewhere in that time he also picked up guitar, bass, banjo and keyboards. Paul’s an accomplished song writer and arranger having played with ‘The Chieftains’, ‘The Young Dubliners’, ‘Blended Spirits’, ‘Ken O’ Mally’, and regularly performed in LA’s oldest Irish Pub Molly Malone’s with ‘Garrison White’, and ‘Glen Cornick’, original bass player for ‘Jethro Tull’.
