Camp Christmas is lighting the campfire for its 5th annual holiday festival with 19 nights of holiday joy. Tickets are now on sale for this season. Opens on Friday, Nov. 21. The popular holiday festival runs Friday through Sunday for back-to-back weekends, Nov. 21 through Dec. 14 Then December 17-23; each evening 5:30 to 9 p.m. With all the lights and sounds of the holidays, Camp Christmas is an explosion of the holiday season, all in one place! From colorful dancing water shows to holiday photo ops, winter hayrides and train rides, as well as “Sappy,” The Talking Christmas Tree – there’s something for everyone that will boost the holiday spirit. New this year is axe throwing, a circus themed Merry Midway – with Basketball Hot Shot, Bowler Roller, Giant Wheel Spin and more! – and a Camp Christmas raffle. There’s also archery, bounce houses, a game room, plus laser tag, a tree top climbing wall and face painting. Additionally, Camp also boasts a Sugar Shack, and multiple dining options, including a new hot dog cart. Camp Christmas is located at 8668 Pine Creek Road in Pine Valley (91962). The altitude at Camp Christmas is 4,000 feet and the evenings can be chilly. Warm clothing – winter jackets, snow hats, scarves, and gloves – are recommended. Most activities are free with the price of admission, with a few requiring a nominal fee. November ticket prices are: $15 for adults and ages 16+ and $10 for children 5- to 15-years old, with kids 4-years and under free. There is a military discount of $2 per ticket (available only at the door). December ticket prices increase slightly to $17 for adults and ages 16+ and $12 for children 5- to 15-years old, with kids 4-years and under free. Learn to wet felt a gorgeous bowl! Saturday, October 18, from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. In this 3-hour workshop you will learn the ancient art of wet felting – the process of loose wool becoming a fabric – and create & design one felted bowl (about 4-5”). The instructor will lead you, with easy steps, through the whole making of your bowl. First you will layer soft merino wool and use pieces of yarn to add color and texture details. Various yarn will be provided but if you have some special one at home, please feel free to bring it! Then your hands will be getting wet and soapy during the “sculpting” or felting process. Towels will be provided. DIY kits will be available for purchase at the end of class. They are perfect as a gift or for you to make more bowls at home. No experience necessary. Ages 14+ welcome! All materials are provided. Mainly Mozart – the San Diego nonprofit behind the acclaimed Mainly Mozart All-Star Orchestra Festival – today announced the return of its Wine Pairing Series, following the enthusiastic response to its 2024 debut. Presented by Jean-Charles Boisett Wineries, this year’s series features four concertmasters across four weekends of performances, an expansion from last year’s three, and adds Saturday concerts alongside Sundays. The series will again be hosted at the Fairbanks Ranch Country Club. The 2025/2026 series showcases four of America’s leading concertmasters: Jun Iwasaki of the Kansas City Symphony (Nov. 15–16, 2025), Nurit Bar-Josef of the National Symphony (Jan. 10–11, 2026), Nathan Cole of the Boston Symphony (Feb. 21–22, 2026), and Frank Huang of the New York Philharmonic (April 11–12, 2026). The Mainly Mozart Wine Pairing Series events begin with an open hors d'oeuvres reception before audiences are seated for an intimate concert and tasting experience. Each piece on the program is paired with curated wines, chosen to mirror the style and emotion of the music. The 48th annual Mt. Carmel Tournament of Bands, San Diego County’s largest high school marching band competition, is set for Saturday, Oct. 25 at Mt. Carmel High School in Rancho Penasquitos. The tournament will showcase the music and artistic pageantry of 38 marching bands from across Southern California and will feature both parade and field show competitions. It is the largest fundraiser of the year for the school’s music program. Proceeds will benefit the nonprofit Mt. Carmel Music Foundation and will be used to support the school’s band, color guard and orchestra programs. Field show performances by small bands will start at 8 a.m. at Mt. Carmel’s Sundevil Stadium, followed by a free parade band review starting at approximately 11:45 a.m. in the school’s parking lot. Field shows with large bands will start at approximately 2:45 p.m. at Sundevil Stadium. Performances will conclude with special appearances by marching bands from San Diego State University and the United States Marine Corps. Food, drink and merchandise concessions will be available throughout the day and evening. Tickets for stadium field shows and award ceremonies are $15 for students, seniors and military; $20 for adult general admission; and $35 for adult reserved. Tickets can be purchased either in advance or at the event. Stadium admission is free for kids age 5 and under. The school’s parking lot will not be available for public parking the day of the event, so spectators should park in the neighborhoods surrounding the school. Mt.
