Please note: Though this class is offered as part of the Certificate in Memoir Writing, there is no pre-requisite to join this class. All students, members, and nonmembers are encouraged to enroll. In this workshop, students will learn the art of editing their memoir including identifying what and where to cut to streamline the plot. Students will also learn how the revising process works so that they will be able to create a product that will excel in the marketplace. Peer editing will be utilized to assist the student in completing a first rough draft of their memoir. Students will be given an overview of the publishing options available to them including special guests (top professionals in the field) that will offer the most current and compelling information about publishing/self-publishing in today’s memoir marketplace. Class structure: Except for the first class, the first hour will be lecture and the second hour will be read and critique where participants can workshop their material or class assignments. Tone of class: We strive to create a supportive, nurturing environment where participants feel encouraged to share, risk and connect to their most creative self. Sunday, October 23, 2022, 1PM to 4PM PST Poem-Making With Jim Moreno, A Virtual Poem-Making Class Online via Zoom This three-hour class for beginning or seasoned poets will utilize the art of poetry to examine the existential background to the political foreground of the Mid Term election that is almost one month away. Poets like Robert Bly, Joy Harjo, Sonia Sanchez, Rumi, Yehuda Amichai, Yusef Komunyakaa and others will help us find humane solutions for our vote. Quotes from the likes of John Lewis, John Kennedy, Malala, and others will frame a portrait of sanity & fact to counter the Big Money mass media montage of misinformation, misdirection and mendacity that currently plagues our nation. This class will be taught in two 90-minute segments divided into quotes, film clips, poems, and stories from Jim Moreno’s experience as an artivist (artist and activist) in writing, teaching, and performing. Beginning and seasoned participants are welcomed to the Container of respect and safety that are the foundation of Moreno’s classes. If you are looking for a critique group, this is not the class for you. This is a write from your heart poem-making class. Are we sick and tired of the mass media bombardment going on for months yet? Whether you are new to throwing on the wheel or have some experience, you’ll enjoy this class. 5 weeks gives you even more time to practice centering the clay and raising those walls! This class will use mid-fire clay, so after being fired, your work will last for years and years. We will focus on wedging, centering, throwing, trimming and glazing.
