The Bonita Glarf Celebration is a free community street fair-style event to celebrate the repair and return of the beloved Bonita Glarf dinosaur statues to their display area on Bonita Road. A one-hour musical narrative will tell the amazing story of the glarfs. It features the Bonita Vista High School show choirs and a talented team of musical theater performers. One rainy night, siblings Sam and Kris are completely consumed by their devices as their father sets up a pillow fort and invites them to play Lotería. His invitation is met with a resounding “NO.” When the internet goes out, Sam and Kris are outraged. Where is their Dad to fix it?! The kids soon discover that the pillow fort is a magical portal to the world of Lotería and their father is trapped inside the game. Sam and Kris set out to bring him back, but Lotería will not let him go so easily. Conceived as an interactive experience, ¡Lotería: Game On! invites the audience to join Sam and Kris as they play to win back their father. This year is the 27th annual Mission Hills Garden Walk with the theme "A Garden Walk through Time." Each year different homeowners' gardens are open to the public. This year there are 12 gardens on the Walk. In many yards there will be musicians performing and watercolor artists painting. The first garden is at Grant TK - 8 school, where there is also a morning performance by the school's band and a Bazaar of San Diego artisans explaining and selling their crafts. More than craft classes, Third Sunday Craft will help you construct and sustain a writing practice. New focus topics for each session will challenge writers to explore and expand their craft. Students may also choose to paint the charming architecture. Painting outdoors gives the artist the opportunity to experiment with light, color, and atmosphere. This plein air painting class is taught on location in beautiful San Diego. Work with San Diego landscape painter Kevin Inman to learn how to paint spontaneously, simplify a complex subject, and enjoy the moment. Topics include color mixing, design, and how to let go of your inner critic. Materials: Recommended oil or acrylic colors (Gamblin and Rembrandt paints): Limited palette: Alizarin Crimson Permanent, Cadmium Yellow Medium, Ultramarine Blue, Titanium White. This palette saves money but limits your options in advanced painting techniques. Basic palette: Cadmium Yellow Medium (or Hue), Cadmium Yellow Deep (or Hue), Cadmium Red Medium (or Hue), Alizarin Crimson Permanent, Ultramarine Blue, Cerulean Blue Hue, Titanium White, Burnt Umber, or preferred alternatives.
