¡Lotería: Game On! A TYA Production Theatre for Young Audiences April 19, 2025 in the Lyric Courtyard Join us for a joyful afternoon at a FREE event hosted by CCAE Theatricals through their Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) initiative! Immerse yourself in the vibrant Mexican traditions of a kermés - a festive celebration filled with exciting games, hands-on activities, lively music, and delicious food. Don’t miss this fun-filled community event for all ages! One rainy night, siblings Sam and Kris are completely consumed by their devices as their father sets up a pillow fort and invites them to play Lotería. His invitation is met with a resounding “NO.” When the internet goes out, Sam and Kris are outraged. Where is their Dad to fix it?! The kids soon discover that the pillow fort is a magical portal to the world of Lotería and their father is trapped inside the game. Sam and Kris set out to bring him back, but Lotería will not let him go so easily. Conceived as an interactive experience, ¡Lotería: Game On! invites the audience to join Sam and Kris as they play to win back their father. This year is the 27th annual Mission Hills Garden Walk with the theme "A Garden Walk through Time." Each year different homeowners' gardens are open to the public. This year there are 12 gardens on the Walk. In many yards there will be musicians performing and watercolor artists painting. The first garden is at Grant TK - 8 school, where there is also a morning performance by the school's band and a Bazaar of San Diego artisans explaining and selling their crafts. The devastation of the LA fires impacted so many people, and the recovery path for families with special needs is even more daunting. TERI has learned that over 240 homes burned within L.A.’s special needs community, and as a response, has put together a community event to raise funds for our neighbors up north. On February 1, TERI will host a benefit concert to help support special needs families impacted by the LA fires. Restoring Hope: A Benefit Concert for Special Needs Families will take place at The Bornemann Theatre, located at TERI Campus of Life, and will begin at 3:30 p.m. 100% of proceeds from the benefit concert will support three L.A. Regional Centers working directly with families with kids, adults, and seniors with special needs. Tickets for the concert can be purchased online and are $50 for general admission and $75 for front row seating. TERI Common Grounds Café will be open for lunch, dinner and concessions stands during the concert. The benefit concert will feature unforgettable performances by: Sara Jade Band – Captivating vocals and soulful melodies. [3:30 p.m. - 4 p.m.] Adin Boyer – American Idol and Autism advocate. [4:15 p.m. - 4:45 p.m.] Never Die Young – A James Taylor tribute band celebrating timeless classics. [5 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.] Jimmy Buffet – A tribute to Jimmy Buffett’s breezy, feel-good anthems. Join us for “Ryde or Dye,” an interactive, one-of-a-kind event that celebrates love, creativity, and community. All attendees will receive a FREE dyed shirt upon arrival, and they will use a variety of sewing tools and embellishment techniques to unleash their creativity and design a piece of wearable art. (You must RSVP to receive your free tee!) Music, munchies and live poetry will be on display throughout the evening. Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arrangement. It is more than simply putting flowers in a container. It is a disciplined art form that breathes life into each composition, harmonizing the elements of nature and humanity. Learn to create these stunning pieces of art that intertwine Japanese culture and the changing of the seasons. By end of the semester, you will have learned to design beautiful and professional looking arrangements for both everyday and special occasions. Mondays, 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. January 6–March 3 (no class January 20) (8 weeks, 24 total hours of instruction) (Model included one day) La Jolla Studio In this class the face is the focus. Using different techniques and mediums, we will find fun ways to approach an often daunting subject. Students will be encouraged to bring photos of family, friends—even pets. We will discuss the best kinds of photos to use and how to use the ones you have even if they aren’t the best quality. There will be a model for one session, and we will try self-portraiture. This is an interesting way to improve your skills, find some new ones, and have fun while you are at it. Materials: A 9” x 12” pad of mixed-media paper; soft vine charcoal (willow is the best); woodless graphite pencil, 6B, 8B, or 9B (the higher the number the better); pencil sharpener; kneaded eraser. Other materials will be discussed in class, and the instructor will bring some supplies for students to try and share.
