Way Outside the Lines presents Destination Joy! An immersive art collaboration between San Diego neighborhoods utilizing art and the MTS Trolley System to foster solidarity and raise awareness. The Urban Collaborative Project and lead artist, Khalil Bleux, are partnering with some exceptional artists and cultural practitioners from San Ysidro, Chula Vista, National City, and Southeast San Diego for a 2-day event on August 3rd and 4th from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. on the MTS Trolley cars and select Trolley stations: San Ysidro- Iris Avenue Transit Station, Chula Vista- E Street Transit Center, National City- 24th Street Transit Center, Downtown- Park and Market, Southeast San Diego- Euclid Avenue Transit Station and Jacobs Center. The organizers of this immersive event recognize the transformative power of art, cultural practice, and solidarity in working toward equity and justice. The 2-day art program aims to inspire community engagement and raise awareness regarding the impact of systemic racism and oppressive practices such as redlining. There are two ways to enjoy this special event. Reserve a ticket for the FREE full-ride, guided immersive experience or go to any of the four FREE Trolley Station Activation sites. Community members can stop at each Trolley Station Activation to explore thought-provoking art and cultural performances. Concert Hour is a music enrichment series presented on the campus of Palomar College for our students, staff, and community by the Palomar College Performing Arts Department. Enjoy a range of exciting artists and musicians in the beautiful Howard Brubeck Theatre or Performance Lab D-10. The program is presented weekly during the Fall and Spring Semesters at 1 p.m. and ends at approximately 2 p.m. Admission and Parking are FREE. This Week’s Performing Arts Will Be Located in Performance Lab D -10 Peter Gach is a pianist of wide-ranging musical interests based in San Diego. His repertoire extends from the complete Well-Tempered Clavier, Vol. II of JS Bach, to contemporary works written especially for him. He has premiered works by SoCal composers and actively commissions new music for the piano. He is also Professor Emeritus at Palomar College, where he was Chairperson of the Performing Arts Department and Artist in Residence in Piano. In retirement, he initiated a fund-raising campaign for the Steinway Concert Grand in the College’s renovated Performing Arts Complex. It is named the Peter Gach Steinway in his honor. His book Perfect Practice/Perfect Performance: A Handbook for Musicians at Work and Onstage, is available for download. Filled with practical advice and based on years of experience in both teaching developing musicians and personal experience, it offers real, time-tested solutions to the challenges of practicing and performing. There’s a new stand-up comedy showcase in town–UC San Diego’s Park & Market’s Comedy Night at the Guggenheim presented by Mark Christopher Lawrence. The third show in the series brings Marine Corps veteran and America’s Got Talent alum James P. Connolly to the Guggenheim Theatre on Friday, October 18, from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. L.A.-based musical comedy duo The SHOW with Adam & Sean and Coronado comedian Sue Shirey are also slated for sets, alongside a musical performance from San Diego ukelele duo Tricia Lynn Naval & Joyce Mendez. Each of the Comedy Night at the Guggenheim shows features a collection of clean, family-friendly comedians curated by host Mark Christopher Lawrence. Lawrence is best known for his role as Big Mike on NBC’s Chuck, in which he was a series regular for four seasons. In addition to his acting work, Lawrence is a nationally touring stand-up comedian who has toured with comic legends like Sinbad, Jerry Seinfeld, and Rodney Dangerfield.
