  • DMICS 2023 will conclude with a night of opera and a celebration of the human voice. One of the unique aspects of DMICS is our opera workshop program, in which composers are invited to work with a collection of some of Southern California's top vocal artists to develop and present new operatic works together. This season we will hear the continuation of Polina Nazaykinskaya's major opera-in-progress, "Tear Down This Wall," a comedic scene from Jordan Kuspa's "The Importance of Being Earnest," and several vocal works by composers with local ties to San Diego: Texu Kim, Michael Remson, and Joseph Sowa. This is a rare opportunity to hear new works in their infancy, as our composer/performer teams work to hone their creative vision together and create new and powerful operas destined for grand stages in the future. • Offsite Visit us at the Lanford Days Activation in San Diego July 19- 20! The replica of Roseanne’s local hometown festival is free and open to the public. You can play carnival games, win prizes, eat the Lanford Lunch Box Diner’s famous loose meat sandwiches and enjoy the atmosphere. Famed San Diego country/rock singer-songwriter Sara Petite, whose spot-on impersonation of Loretta Lynn has gained widespread attention, will be playing the role of Loretta Lynn at Lanford Days, July 20-21 in San Diego’s Gaslamp District. Petite has built an award-winning career with songs that owe as much to the rock & roll roadhouse as they do the honky-tonk. She has earned a wide range of accolades — including Top 40 success on the Americana charts, international airplay, and more than a half-dozen trophies from the San Diego Music Awards. Lanford Days is based on an iconic episode of ROSEANNE (season 5, episode 15), when the festival appeared in the episode featuring Country-Western legend Loretta Lynn, including a memorable duet with Roseanne over the closing credits. Throughout the two-day festival, which is free and open to the public, activation scenes from Episode 15 will be recreated as if you are right there in the action with our actors - Roseanne, Dan, Darlene, DJ and others, recreating the magic that millions of viewers experienced watching this episode. Lanford Days will be open from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, July 20-21, at 6th & E in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter. The Lanford Lunch Box on Facebook
