THIS MONTH'S SPEAKER: Reuben Herzl is a San Diego-based video strategist and documentary video producer whose career spans architecture, technology, and storytelling. In 2017, he founded Groundmaking, a video production company that empowers nonprofits to reach their fundraising and marketing goals through compelling storytelling. His clients include Heluna Health, the California Community Foundation, Koreatown Youth and Community Center, Carlsbad Educational Foundation, Descanso Gardens, and The Trust for Public Land. Reuben frequently speaks at conferences like the Nonprofit Storytelling Conference, sharing insights to inspire emerging storytellers. Previously, he was Chief Creative Officer at Aclima, where he led creative initiatives in environmental technology for clients like Google and the US General Services Administration. Holding a Master’s in Architecture from Yale and a Bachelor’s in International Economics from UC San Diego, Reuben brings a unique, multidisciplinary approach to his work. One of the most legendary bands to hail from San Diego, the B-Side Players have spent the last three decades establishing a reputation as one of the most eclectic, genre-defining bands of their day. The nine-member band can hardly be described using typical genre conventions, blending elements of funk, rock, jazz, and hip-hop with gritty street samba, Cumbia, and other sounds common in Latin America. Their Dec. 7 performance at UC San Diego’s Park & Market marks their final show of the year and celebrates the last 30 years of their prolific career. The 90-minute performance will also feature an intimate Q&A with the audience, during which fans can hear unheard insights about the band’s history. Monday, February 17 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Ages 4-6 welcome! Taught by artist & designer Christine Gilpin, your preschool age child will explore collaging, color theory, sewing, weaving and fiber arts in our studio. We will explore through sensory activities, crafts and stories while developing fine motor skills. Littles learn best by doing and playing. We practice handwork and workplay. We “play” with natural objects and materials. Each project is planned so that children build skills while satisfying their need to explore. Projects are safe, non-toxic, and full of creativity. It’s important that your child bring water in a refillable bottle and a snack (no candy or peanut products please) in case they are hungry or thirsty during this time. In addition, if your child is enrolled in a nearby camp elsewhere in Liberty Station in the afternoon, and their camp begins as ours ends, we are happy to walk your child to their next camp.
