Beverly Thorn, a psychologist and certified End-Of-Life Doula will discuss her new book, "Before I Lose My Own Mind: Navigating Life as a Dementia Caregiver," telling her own personal story of caring for her husband with dementia, from the lens of a psychologist and death doula. The book is aimed at caring for the caregiver, who often gets overlooked in terms of their own care needs. Knowledge about the disorder provides a coping base, and planning and ongoing conversation provides the glue to hold the caregiver together during this long trajectory. The crisis of a dementia diagnosis is sobering, but also an opportunity. Since dementia is not an all or nothing thing, there is time before one loses decisional capacity to consider and talk about their life values, healthcare and dementia care preferences along the dementia trajectory, and their end-of-life wishes. Planning and communication are key in a society where no one wants to talk about dementia or death. Loved ones and potential caregivers also need to be in the know so that they can make life-altering decisions once the person with dementia is no longer able to do so. A curated evening of live dance, AAPI dance makers present works that tell stories of “Becoming Asian American”. This year's invited choreographers work primarily in modern and contemporary dance forms. Each come from different cultural backgrounds and are inspirational and accomplished artists in their own right. Together, they will present an evening of profound sharing and deep questioning. Watch films made by our students and browse their powerful publications about issues that matter to them. This free event welcomes everyone – families, educators, artists, and anyone curious about youth media arts. Presented by Art Through the Glass, the show transforms vacant storefronts into alternative art gallery spaces that reconnect the community with creativity, play, and storytelling. Featuring works including painting, photography, mixed media, and installation art, the exhibition explores themes of childhood joy, humor, cultural memory, and personal history. Each window acts as a time capsule welcoming view "REWIND: You Had to Be There… And Now You Can" is a nostalgic group art exhibition at Chula Vista Center, presented by Art Through the Glass. Featuring works that celebrate laughter, memory, and joy, the show invites viewers to reconnect with the moments that still make them smile. From childhood play to family gatherings, this exhibition turns forgotten corners into vibrant spaces for reflection, celebration, and artists to pause, smile, and remember.
