  • If you have always wanted to write a novel but didn’t know where to start, this workshop will help you understand the process of writing a novel so you can get started putting pen to paper. In this six-week workshop, we will focus on everything from generating ideas to developing characters to establishing point of view. We will touch on many elements of fiction (dialogue, scene, etc…), but the emphasis will be on discovering the writing process that works best for you. You will be emailed the Zoom link 24 hours before the start of class. If you sign up less than 24 hours before the start of the class, please email Kristen at programs@sandiegowriters.org for your link. Please note: Though this class is offered as part of the Novel Writing Certificate Program, there is no pre-requisite to join this class. Tuesday, January 10: Openings. This in-person class will look at what makes an effective opening. Writers will be encouraged to re-work old openings or to invent new ones! Tuesday, February 14: Desire!: We will meet in-person on Valentine’s Day to explore how to write an effective scene centered around the emotions of love, passion, and desire. Bring chocolate! Tuesday, March 14: Creating Conflict: This in-person class will explore effective writing that deals with conflict. Please Note: This class will be held in person at Inspirations Gallery (2730 Historic Decatur Rd., Suite 204, San Diego, CA, 92106). While masks are not required indoors, they are encouraged.
