Offering a message of hope that spans centuries, musical styles and faith traditions, the Village Church presents a free Spring Choral Concert on Sunday, April 13th at 4 p.m. Songs of Hope features internationally recognized organist Nathaniel Gumbs, director of chapel music at Yale University. He will be joined by the Village Community Chorale, several soloists and professional musicians. The performance includes the Chichester Psalms by Leonard Bernstein, “The Chariot Jubilee” by R. Nathaniel Dett, “Hear My Prayer” by Felix Mendelssohn, and “Song of Hope” by Florence Price. This free concert will be presented in the church sanctuary at 6225 Paseo Delicias in Rancho Santa Fe. On November 23, Birch Aquarium at Scripps hosts Indigenous Ocean Day centering Indigenous people and Indigenous ocean culture. The aquarium welcomes Intertribal Native community members and the general public to experience this day of cultural sharing. Participate in a community tule boat build, listen to storytellers and Birdsinging, learn more about culturally significant ocean animals, interact with hands-on activity stations, a resource fair with Indigenous organizations and more. After producing the music video for their song “Excuse My Accent,” artists Rob Young Walker and Andrei “Drei Ros” Rosca met Hector Barajas, a deported American military veteran. Upon hearing his story, they embark on a journey to shed light on the issue.
