Belmont Park is hosting its 2nd Annual Community 5K on Sunday, September 22! Bay to Park Paseo offers free guided tours along Park Boulevard from San Diego Bay to Balboa Park to see engaging installations designed by leading San Diego creators. Tours start from the Hilton San Diego Bayfront and happen monthly, the first and third Saturdays from May 18, 2024 through Sept. 21, 2024. Endorsed as an Impact Project of World Design Capital San Diego Tijuana 2024, the 1.7-mile paseo was created to encourage walking and to highlight the easy connection between two of San Diego’s crown jewels, the Bay and Balboa Park. The Paseo includes up to 13 impermanent installations outside iconic locations along Park Boulevard designed by San Diego’s leading designers and artists. In this 2-hour class, sewist Paige Plihal guides students through a complete introduction to the sewing machine. You will learn on our studio’s computerized machines, the Pfaff Ambition 610. Please note, if bringing your own sewing machine, it is very important to make sure it is fully functional before class. Whether you’ve never touched a sewing machine before or need a refresher after time away, this introductory class is designed to give you a solid foundational understanding of how to use a sewing machine so that you can step into our project-based classes with confidence. You’ll learn how to wind a bobbin; thread the machine; adjust stitch length/width; use decorative stitches; sew gentle curves; pivot and turn corners (on the machine and with the iron); and experiment with buttonholes and elastic. You’ll leave with a stitch sampler notebook cover and inner journal so you can take notes through the class and leave with a tactile reminder of your new skills! This class is ideal for ages 12+, 8-12yrs can attend with a dedicated adult helper. All materials included. For the past 20 years, Front Porch Gallery, a nonprofit organization, has been dedicated to creating excellent and engaging exhibitions.
