  • Saturday, 9:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. April 5 (1 Day, 6.5 hours of instruction) AAC Print Room Everyone enjoys receiving “real” mail. Even better is the wonderful surprise of receiving a handmade card to treasure. We will make simple cards with leaf prints, as well as more intricate cards with interesting folds. Making cards is a great way to relax, offers a straightforward creative outlet, and produces beautiful items to share with friends and family. Materials: Cutting knife, stylus (for scoring), sharp pencils, a good eraser (Pink Pearl is good), glue (UHU glue stick or PVA & brush or very small roller), 12” ruler, scissors. Optional/recommended: 12” centering ruler, bench hook with cutting mat (9” x 12” cutting mat size is ideal), bone folder. Materials will be provided to create the cards and make envelopes for them.   • Tuesday–Thursday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. March 25 – 27 (3 Days, 18 total hours of instruction) La Jolla Studio Geoff begins all classes with lessons in watercolor handling, notably the relationship between brush mixture and paper moisture and the concept of connection. During the daily demonstrations, the class will cover color mixing, brush handling, and contour drawing skills. Painting from life gives you the opportunity to observe directly from nature different forms of light and surfaces. There will be a focus on impressionistic interpretations of fruit and flowers through the use of watercolor techniques to express form: wet on wet, wet on dry, dry brushing, splattering, lifting, and most importantly adding water. This is a one-day intensive workshop focusing on painting flowers alla prima. Students will learn about composition by designing and setting up a floral still life. We will take a closer look at the structure of flowers and techniques for painting them. A fun, fast study, and an excellent opportunity to develop painting skills and study floral painting in depth. The workshop will conclude with group critique. For oil painters of all levels. Materials: 9” x 12” or 11” x 14” canvas or linen panel; half-dozen brushes, white bristle flat or filbert, size 2, 4, and 6. One medium-size steel palette knife; small, pointed round brush for detail, size 2–4.   • Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. –1:30 p.m. (Includes 1/2 hour lunch break) March 19 (1 day; 3.5 total hours of instruction) La Jolla Studio In this workshop you will have a wonderful and rare opportunity to draw two models together! We will have a 20-minute warmup, and then the models will take one long pose. Proportion and sighting will be emphasized, and students will have individual attention from the instructor. You may bring any material (drawing or painting) that you would like to use—excluding oil paints. Butcher paper and charcoal will be provided. The instructor will also bring a variety of drawing materials to try and to play with. We will take a break in the middle, so bring your lunch. A variety of teas, snacks, and water will be provided by the instructor. All skill levels are welcome! Materials: Two or more large sheets of charcoal or pastel paper and one kneaded eraser. Or, if you want to use water media, bring two or more large sheets of mixed-media paper or canvas. Remember to wear clothes that can get dirty!
