  • Learn to Sew & Hem! September 19, 1-3 p.m. This class is a continuation of the Family and Beginner Sewing 101. In this next series, Instructor Hannah Gioutlos will guide you through the process of sewing a drawstring backpack. We will learn how to place our pattern on your fabric and cut it out with scissors or a rotary cutter. Then we will show tips on using a seam gauge to find the hem allowance. Next we will learn the proper way to press our fabric into place to get ready for hemming. For students who complete this project early, you can also learn to sew a pet bandana for your furry friends. All materials are included. Adults and age 7+ (with adult) welcome! REQUIREMENT: If you are new to using a sewing machine, you must take Family & Beginner Sewing 101 | Sewing Machine Basics first. In order to enroll in 102, a student must know how to thread and use a/their sewing machine and be comfortable with beginner sewing techniques. Family & Beginner Sewing is a fun sewing series aimed at acquainting students with a/their sewing machines, beginning with the basics and growing skills. This class, 102, is the second in the series.   • Upcycle Your Own Item! Learn to Carve & Block Print! Choose from: Thursday, October 2, 6-8 p.m. or Thursday, November 6, 6-8 p.m. Have you ever wanted to print your own designs on shirts and bags?! In this 2-hour workshop, you’ll learn the art of relief printing! Students will learn to design and carve their own linoleum stamp and block print an image onto fabric. We invite you to upcycle fabric from your own wardrobe or home for this class, so grab a well-loved favorite item or something that could use a fun refresh and begin imagining some fun designs you might carve and print! Because this class focuses on upcycling, please bring your own fabric to block print on. This can be clothing, a tote bag or something else. You may bring more than one item and the instructor can help you choose which to print on in class. We recommend you avoid fabrics that are especially thin, like satins and silks. All other tools and materials needed for this class will be supplied for use.
