Wednesdays from 6 – 8:30 p.m. April 2, 9, 16, 23, May 7 Learn the fascinating and ancient art form of ceramics with Meg, a full time potter, in this 5-week, weekday evening wheel series. Whether you’re a beginner or intending to deepen your relationship, all are welcome to experience the world of clay in this fun and friendly environment. By focusing on techniques to confidently create functional and aesthetic pottery, we will learn creative design, how to throw on the wheel, trimming and glazing! Rap Diego: An Audio Documentary uncovers the untold story of a significant music revolution in San Diego. It chronicles the underground rap movement that launched numerous artists into the spotlight and fostered a subculture that ultimately became mainstream and influential worldwide. This narrative unfolds in four acts, narrated by those who experienced it firsthand—producer Parker Edison; editor Chris Reyes; and cultural attaché J. Smith. Audiences will have the opportunity to hear early music and performances that have rarely, if ever, been heard by the public.

Artist Statement: Macedonio Arteaga Jr. is a visionary artist, educator, and community leader whose work bridges cultural heritage, social justice, and artistic expression. As the founder and artistic director of Teatro Izcalli, a Chicano comedy troupe, Macedonio uses humor and storytelling to challenge stereotypes, amplify underrepresented voices, and foster cultural pride. His creative work extends beyond the stage, with published plays and poetry that inspire new generations to find their own artistic voices. Through decades of dedicated service, Macedonio has brought the transformative power of the arts to underserved communities. He has served as an Artist-in-Residence at the Sherman Heights Community Center and the Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation, creating opportunities for others to engage with and grow through the arts. His initiatives, such as “Círculo de Hombres,” have addressed critical social issues like violence prevention, mentorship, and cultural awareness in schools. Recognized with prestigious honors, including the California Arts Council Legacy Artist Award in 2021, Macedonio’s contributions to the arts and culture are now celebrated at the Chicano Park Museum and Cultural Center, which is proud to host his first museum art installation. Monday – Friday, April 14 – 18, from 1p.m. – 4 p.m. Ages 7-12 welcome! Taught by a variety of skilled educators and professional artists, your child will explore seasonal crafts through a variety of mediums such as woodworking, ceramics and fiber arts! Along the way, we’ll make fun, high-quality crafts kids can take home. Our projects are geared to build and hone skills such as hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, creativity, comprehension + exploration of a variety of materials. Projects and depth of craft exploration are matched up to the child’s age and ability. It’s important that your child bring water in a refillable bottle and a snack (no candy or peanut products please) in case they are hungry or thirsty during this time. In addition, if your child is enrolled in a nearby camp elsewhere in Liberty Station, and they’re camp is ending as ours begins, we are happy to walk your child from their camp to the studio. By the time Avi Kaplan launched his solo career with 2017's "Sage and Stone", he'd already built an audience that stretched across the globe, racking up three GRAMMY Awards as a member of the platinum-selling vocal group, Pentatonix. As the group's profile continued to climb though, Avi knew he needed to return to his own artistic foundation — to the organic roots, country and soul music that had provided the soundtrack to his upbringing in rural California. Now, following 2020’s well-received EP, "I’ll Get By" and 2022’s highly acclaimed LP, "Floating On A Dream" (produced by Shooter Jennings), Avi is set to release "Feel Alright", a new 5-track EP on Fantasy Records that further showcases his extraordinary artistic ability. Produced by Kaplan along with Reid Leslie (Devon Gilfillian), "Feel Alright" blends modern sounds with classic influences into something inventive, fresh and wholly original. The new music is the start of a busy 2024 for the celebrated singer-songwriter. Between mid-May and mid-June, Avi will visit 16 cities on a tour across the U.S., with confirmed dates in the UK and Europe set for September. Guthrie Brown, a Nashville transplant by way of "old Montana" began playing the guitar at age six. By the age of seventeen, he journeyed to Nashville to pursue the dream of being a professional songwriter, recording & performing artist. After settling in Music City, he recorded and produced his first self-titled EP, which got the attention of Nashville's premiere independent radio station, WRLT Lightning 100. Capitalizing on the initial success of his debut EP, Guthrie recorded and released his second EP "Spirit of the Elk" with producer Stuart Mathis (The Wallflowers, Lucinda Williams). Following his second release, he recruited his longtime friends and musicians John Ogelby (drums), Will Honaker (bass, keys) and John McNally (guitar) to join the band.
