This Saturday, the CPMCC will present the work of Macedonio Arteaga Jr.'s work in our newest Community Gallery Artist installation. The opening reception will start at 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. Admission is free along with a food ticket if you RSVP beforehand. Artist Statement: Macedonio Arteaga Jr. is a visionary artist, educator, and community leader whose work bridges cultural heritage, social justice, and artistic expression. As the founder and artistic director of Teatro Izcalli, a Chicano comedy troupe, Macedonio uses humor and storytelling to challenge stereotypes, amplify underrepresented voices, and foster cultural pride. His creative work extends beyond the stage, with published plays and poetry that inspire new generations to find their own artistic voices. Through decades of dedicated service, Macedonio has brought the transformative power of the arts to underserved communities. He has served as an Artist-in-Residence at the Sherman Heights Community Center and the Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation, creating opportunities for others to engage with and grow through the arts. His initiatives, such as “Círculo de Hombres,” have addressed critical social issues like violence prevention, mentorship, and cultural awareness in schools. Recognized with prestigious honors, including the California Arts Council Legacy Artist Award in 2021, Macedonio’s contributions to the arts and culture are now celebrated at the Chicano Park Museum and Cultural Center, which is proud to host his first museum art installation. Fairview Canyon is a group of accomplished multi-instrumentalist musicians with many years of experience playing a variety of genres. Their current focus is playing an Americana style while also touching on the West Coast Sound of the late sixties and seventies. Featuring tight harmony vocals and intricate guitar work, the quartet specializes in putting their own stamp on singer/songwriters. Concert Hour is a music enrichment series presented on the campus of Palomar College for our students, staff, and community by the Palomar College Performing Arts Department. Enjoy a range of exciting artists and musicians in the beautiful Howard Brubeck Theatre or Performance Lab D-10. The program is presented weekly during the Fall and Spring Semesters at 1 p.m. and ends at approximately 2 p.m. Admission and Parking are FREE. This Week’s Performing Arts Will Be Located in Performance Lab D -10 Alyze Dreiling was born in Detroit, Michigan. She began her violin studies with Mischa Mischakoff .The Detroit Symphony and the Music Study Club of Metropolitan Detroit sponsored her education with Mischakoff. Ms. Dreiling graduated from Indiana University where she studied with Josef Gingold. She holds a BM in Violin Performance from Indiana University and MA from United States International University with an emphasis on Orchestral Performance. Ms. Dreiling was an invited semi- finalist in the European Union Conducting Competition in 2018. She has attended masterclasses with Zoltan Rozsnyai, Gunther Neuhold,, Neil Thomson and Dr. Scott Weiss and Philip Greenberg. Ms. Dreiling was the founding Artistic Director and Conductor of Classics for Kids and currently is Artistic Director and the Emeritus Conductor of YPO Festival Orchestra, Soloists Ensemble and Soloists Sinfonietta and was recently awarded 3nd prize in the American Prize Competition in the conductor of youth orchestra division.
