Writing can sometimes feel like a lonely endeavor, but a good read-and-critique group can help you feel supported and connected to a writing community. Friday Writers I is a read-and-critique group for all levels. This group will offer thoughtful feedback and guidance in your poetry writing endeavors. The class begins with a close read of two to three poems written by contemporary poets, followed by a few minutes of writing from a prompt. Following the free-write, we will read and critique each other's work. "Highlight" Dance Showcase is a curated event featuring 14 groups, each presenting a 5-minute set. Designed as a space for movement artists to express their individuality on stage, Highlight brings together a vibrant community that lives and loves dance. Concert Hour is a music enrichment series presented on the campus of Palomar College for our students, staff, and community by the Palomar College Performing Arts Department. Enjoy a range of exciting artists and musicians in the beautiful Howard Brubeck Theatre or Performance Lab D-10. The program is presented weekly during the Fall and Spring Semesters at 1 p.m. and ends at approximately 2 p.m. Admission and Parking are FREE. She is also a Professor of Music at Palomar College, where she has been on the faculty since 2000. Description: "The Half-Life Of Marie Curie" explores the remarkable bond between the two women as they navigate the complexities of fame, loss, and the pursuit of scientific discovery. In 1911, Marie Curie won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for her discovery of the elements radium and polonium. By 1912, she was the object of ruthless gossip over an alleged affair, all but erasing her achievements from public memory. Weakened and demoralized by the press, Marie agrees to join her friend and colleague Hertha Ayrton, an electromechanical engineer and suffragette, and recover from the scandal at Hertha's seaside retreat on the British coast. This one act, 70-minute play revels in the power of female friendship as it explores the relationship between these two brilliant women, both of whom are mothers, widows, and fearless champions of scientific inquiry.
