  • The Lupus Research Alliance is hosting its annual “2025 San Diego Walk with Us to Cure Lupus” event Saturday, November 22, 2025. This in-person fundraising event is a fantastic opportunity to connect with others in the community who are passionate about finding a cure for this debilitating autoimmune disease. Also included are inspiring speakers, light refreshments, fun festivities, and a Kids Zone. All are welcome. Of special note -- 100% of all donations goes to support lupus research programs because the Lupus Research Alliance Board of Directors funds all administrative and fundraising costs.   • County Supervisors approved a new partnership with local foundations to backfill federal cuts threatening food, housing, and health programs.
  • Join us this Saturday, August 30, from 4 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.! Learn to create your own one of a kind ceramic air plant holders in this 2.5 hour workshop! There are many variations of designs for these vessels, and many options for surface design. We will explore texture using tools and objects to create unique designs and shapes that will dazzle your plants and bring the beauty to your home. Each student may create up to three holders. Your pieces will then be fired as-is (no glaze) for a natural, earthen aesthetic. If you’d like to make more than three plant holders during class and have time remaining, additional holders can be made for a $5 fee. Projects will be ready to pick up 3-4 weeks after class. No experience necessary. All materials and tools provided. Ages 12+ years or 6+ years with an adult. The evening will include a dog costume contest, festive treats, and photo-worthy moments, like a Halloween pup parade. It’s always 5 o’clock somewhere and every Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m., it’s Yappy Hour at Margaritaville Hotel San Diego’s pup-friendly rooftop oasis, 5 o’Clock Somewhere Bar. Designed for both locals and hotel guests, Yappy Hour is the perfect way to unwind with your four-legged friend, enjoy stunning views, and connect with fellow dog lovers over great drinks.   • Samuel Adams Brewing the American Dream (BTAD) and Accessity are joining forces to host Crafted for Success, a one-day conference that supports food and beverage entrepreneurs as they start, grow, and scale their businesses. The free event will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in San Diego’s Mission Bay. It will bring together small business owners, industry leaders, and partner organizations for a day of education, networking, and inspiration. The conference is designed to address the challenges faced by food and beverage entrepreneurs, from navigating marketing trends and distribution to building brand awareness and securing financing. Attendees will hear from Maya Madsen, owner of Maya’s Cookies, who is celebrating 10 years in business, during an inspiring fireside chat. The day will also feature breakout sessions on marketing, sales, and growth strategies and practical insights from industry experts and local small business owners. Beyond educational programming, participants can network with partner organizations, mentors, and fellow entrepreneurs throughout the day, including during meals, breaks, and a closing happy hour with bites and hosted beverages from Samuel Adams. “With Brewing the American Dream, we’ve seen firsthand how access to the right resources, mentorship, and community can transform a small business,” said Jennifer Glanville Love, brewer and director of partnerships at Boston Beer. “Crafted for Success is about bringing entrepreneurs together in one room to garner invaluable insight from experts, connect with peers, and leave inspired with the tools and confidence to take their businesses to the next level.” Registration for Crafted for Success is free, though space is limited. Designed for elementary-aged students, each camp explores a unique theme through hands-on art projects, collaborative activities, and playful learning. Campers engage in daily lessons inspired by contemporary artists, outdoor play, meditation, and an end-of-camp art show that celebrates their work. Held in our studio space, our camp fosters imagination, confidence, and connection, while promoting ArtReach’s mission to make visual arts education accessible to all youth. Saturday, Nov. 15. 10–11:15 a.m. Getting into the Altered State of Creativity with Jill Badonsky This class is for people who are stuck because of the disturbing nature of current events, because their inner critic is talking too loudly, or because … they don’t know why, but they know they want to write and it’s not happening. Writing tricks that lower the pressure but heighten the flow will make writing poems, prose, or journaling easy, low pressure, and easy, especially if confidence has been shaky.
