Expressive Arts @ 32 & Thorn features surrealist artist Ty Bennett whose recent work is a response to a period of deep reflection after a devastating fire in Colorado that destroyed all his possessions. Fiber Fest Upcycling & Mending Fun! Sunday, June 15, 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. We are excited to offer this fun Sunday workshop for Fiber Fest! Join us for a morning of creative mending in good company. Come learn simple hand sewing techniques in order to turn your damaged clothing items into a one-of-a-kind garments. In this 2-hour class with upcycling sewist Keira McGee, you will practice hand sewing stitches and have the opportunity to repair a piece of your own clothing. Please be prepared with an item or two from your closet that are in need of some mending. We suggest items such as jeans and button down shirts, but feel free to bring several options. All other materials will be provided by the instructor. This class is appropriate for ages 14 years and older. All materials included. We’ll start by teaching you how to draft and spin singles, and then move on to plying two singles together to create a beautiful, balanced yarn. Plus, we’ll share tips on where to find spinning supplies and resources to keep you going after class. Whether you’re completely new to spinning or just looking to refresh your skills, this hands-on class will give you a solid foundation in drop spindle spinning! Wednesdays, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. January 8–March 5 (9 weeks, 27 total hours of instruction) AAC Art Studio In this class we will sculpt a full figure from the life model. Students will have eight weeks to build an armature, learn basic figure proportions and structure, and sculpt an entire figure from head to toe. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the skeleton and basic anatomy, and how to depict the illusion of weight. Regular instructor demonstrations and discussions of technique will be given. This class is for all skill levels. Materials: Materials will be discussed at the first class. Please note: this course runs for nine sessions total.
