  • Ongoing Mondays, 5 – 8 p.m. Instructor: Ahmad Khalid Rauofi Afghani master wood carver Ahmad Khalid Rauofi will teach students how to craft their own carved wooden spoon. This class is ongoing and builds upon itself. Students can join at any time, and classes can be taken non-consecutively. Open to all skill levels. Some of the topics covered: • choosing the appropriate tools for the project • how to correctly and safely use the gouges and knives • the process of creating and transferring your design to wood • how to navigate grain direction We will supply materials and carving tools, but if you have your own, please bring them.   • Saturday, March 18 from 1 – 4:30 p.m. No experience necessary. Ages 14+ welcome! In instructor Jeanine Ertl’s class, students will weave together in a space of colorful creativity and openness. She will provide instruction on weaving, a warped lap loom and a rainbow of recycled sari silk ribbon and yarn fibers to ignite your imagination. And we’ll weave together, learning and playing with the basics of the process from start to finish, each creating a unique handwoven that can be hung or draped, according to your desires. Please feel free to bring any items you may want to incorporate into your weaving, like interesting fibers, foraged and gathered natural objects, shells with holes, beads, etc. you may want to incorporate into your weaving. Each Weaver will complete a one-of-a-kind Handwoven Wall Hanging. In addition, if you find that you’re in love with the practice, you will have an option to purchase the loom you are working with, as well as additional fiber and tools to continue at home.   • San Diego urban winery Koi Zen Cellars, located in Carmel Mountain Ranch, will help support music therapy programs at its annual Mix, Mingle and Sip fundraiser April 16 from 2-5 p.m. Attendees will enjoy wine, appetizers, live music and opportunity drawings, while benefiting Resounding Joy, a local nonprofit organization. “Koi Zen has graciously hosted this annual event since 2018, with a few years missed due to COVID,” said Patricia Molnar, fundraising chair for the Resounding Joy Board of Directors. “All of our programs will benefit from the generosity of supporters, including free music therapy services that focus on children and military members. In addition, our partnerships with other nonprofits help us to provide services to many populations around the county, from the homeless to our senior community.” Resounding Joy’s board-certified music therapists share evidence-based tools to make music a lifelong choice for reducing stress, managing symptoms, creating good memories, and improving relationships.
