  • Yiddish Classes for Absolute Beginners 2 Basic Grammar and Conversation NEW! 8-Session Yiddish Course This course is perfect for those who have completed the course Yiddish for Absolute Beginners, as well as others who can already read the Yiddish Alef-Beys and have had around 10 hours of prior instruction (about A1.1 level). Among other things, students will learn to write in Yiddish, practice introducing themselves and using everyday greetings, and become familiar with common verbs. While the main emphasis is on consolidating elementary grammar, the course also employs a multimedia approach to introduce students to Yiddish culture, literature, and music through short texts, audiovisual materials, and guided exercises. All materials will be provided by the instructor.   • You’re never too old! Create your own fuzzy Monster! Saturday, October 25, 2-6 p.m. Ages 12+ years or children 6-11 years if accompanied by an adult welcome! Create a professional arm-rod-and-mouth puppet of your very own from Rene Rubalcava, owner and puppeteer of LV Puppet Studio of Las Vegas who learned the art of puppet making from a Jim Henson Muppeteer. There’s no better time to create your own one-of-a-kind fuzzy monster! In this workshop, we guide you from start to finish as you select, cut, hot glue and assemble the pieces and personality of your own customized puppet. No sewing is required in this workshop. Students bring their puppets to life with their own unique interests and imaginations, and by choice and placement of different face details. Each one is unique! Find your puppet’s voice and learn some puppetry basics. All materials included.   • Kids & Adults, learn to wet felt fun eco-friendly diffusers! Saturday, October 18, 1-3 p.m. In this 2-hour workshop you will learn the basics of the ancient art of felting, and you will make 2 wool diffusers…which make great gifts! The diffusers or ornaments, if you decide not to scent them, are made with three felted balls, colorful ribbons or embroidery thread and wooden beads. You will use merino wool and a wet felting technic to create the felted balls. The balls can later be scented by dropping essential oil or spraying perfume on them. The essential oils or perfume are not provided. This project require the use of sharp sewing needles. No experience necessary. Ages 12+ welcome! Children 8-11 years are also welcome but need to be accompanied by a paying adult. All materials are provided, except for essential oils/perfume.   • Learn to wet felt a gorgeous bowl! Saturday, October 18, from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. In this 3-hour workshop you will learn the ancient art of wet felting – the process of loose wool becoming a fabric – and create & design one felted bowl (about 4-5”). The instructor will lead you, with easy steps, through the whole making of your bowl. First you will layer soft merino wool and use pieces of yarn to add color and texture details. Various yarn will be provided but if you have some special one at home, please feel free to bring it! Then your hands will be getting wet and soapy during the “sculpting” or felting process. Towels will be provided. DIY kits will be available for purchase at the end of class. They are perfect as a gift or for you to make more bowls at home. No experience necessary. Ages 14+ welcome! All materials are provided. Wednesdays, October 15, 22, 29, November 5 & 19, from 5:30 – 8 p.m., with the last class of the series from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. Learn the fascinating and ancient art form of ceramics with Meg, a full time potter, in this 5-week, weekday evening wheel series. Whether you’re a beginner or intending to deepen your relationship, all are welcome to experience the world of clay in this fun and friendly environment. By focusing on techniques to confidently create functional and aesthetic pottery, we will learn creative design, how to throw on the wheel, trimming and glazing! Projects will be ready to pick up 3-4 weeks after the last class. Beginners welcome.
