  • The United States Tennis Association Billie Jean King Girls’ 16s and 18s National Championships will be played Saturday, August 5 through Sunday, August 13, 2023 at Barnes Tennis Center, 4490 W. Point Loma Blvd., San Diego, CA, 92107. Over 400 of the top junior tennis players in the country, aged 16 and 18 and under, will compete for the title of National Champion. In addition, the following wild cards to the 2023 US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y., will be awarded to the tournament’s top finishers. 18s Champion – US Open Main Draw and US Open Junior Main Draw 18s Finalist – US Open Junior Main Draw 18s 3rd Place – US Open Junior Main Draw 16s Champion – US Open Junior Main Draw 18s 4th & 5th Place – US Open Junior Qualifying “We are anticipating a very strong player field in both divisions for this year’s national championships. It’s going to be a spectacular event with so many talented players coming from across the country to play this tournament,” said Tournament Director Lornie Kuhle. “Fans coming to this event will get to watch the future of American women’s tennis as many of these players will play collegiate tennis and some will go on to compete on the WTA Tour.” Sofia Kenin, the 2015 Girls’ 18s champion, captured the Australian Open singles title in 2020 and achieved a career-high No. 4 in the WTA singles rankings. Coco Gauff, who reached the 18s semifinals in 2018, advanced to her first-career Grand Slam singles final at the 2022 French Open. Last August, Gauff became the No. 1 ranked doubles player in the world and this past October, she achieved a career-high No. 4 in the WTA singles rankings. The Girls’ 16s event will begin on Saturday, August 5 and conclude with the singles and doubles finals on Saturday, August 12. The Girls’ 18s tournament will get underway on Sunday, August 6 and conclude with the singles and doubles championships on Sunday, August 13. Both divisions feature 256-player singles draws with the top 32 players receiving a first-round bye. There will also be 128-team doubles draws with the top 16 teams getting first-round byes. The Opening Ceremony for the USTA Billie Jean King Girls’ 16s and 18s National Championships will take place at the Barnes Tennis Center on Saturday, August 5 at 4:30 p.m. (PDT). Admission is free each day of the tournament and there is no charge for parking at the Barnes Tennis Center. The daily starting times are subject to change.
