  • Start 2026 with Intention: Local Wellness Leader Jill Thiry Hosts New Year Workshop in Imperial Beach Step into the new year with clarity, calm, and purpose at "Set and LIVE Your New Year's Intention," a hands-on wellness workshop led by Imperial Beach resident Jill Thiry, founder of Club Change. This special event will be hosted at the Yoga With Shawna studio, also a local women-owned business, on Saturday, January 17, from 12-3 p.m. at 720 Highway 75, Imperial Beach. Jill brings years of experience guiding participants in yoga, chanting, meditation, movement, sound healing, and journaling. Her approach is gentle, interactive, and empowering, helping people turn insights into daily practices that bring clarity, presence, and joy. Whether through a single mantra or a consistent practice, Jill supports each participant in discovering their own path with kindness and ease. When she is not teaching in Imperial Beach: she leads classes at Rancho La Puerta in Tecate, Mexico for up to 20 weeks each year, and at her retreats in Montara, CA and Sturgeon Bay, WI, or via her weekly Zoom sessions-all details at jillthiry.com. During this workshop, attendees will: - Reflect and explore personal insights through journaling - Create visionary word boards that map out their intentions and practices - Meditate and envision the year ahead - Select personal practices that support meaningful change Her tools have worked for hundreds. One recent client just told her "I found my notes from two years ago and was amazed! Jill, your process really works!" Participants will leave with a simple, practical guide to living as their intended self in 2026. All you need is a journal or pen and paper-and the intention to show up fully for yourself. Dress comfortably for some possibly gentle movement as well. Bring any props if sitting on the floor doesn't work for you. "This is more than a workshop-it's a space to pause, nurture yourself, and plant seeds for a year of purpose and presence," says Jill Thiry. "Even if you already feel like you have it all, this is a chance to step in, reflect, and receive something truly meaningful, and practicable!" Workshop Fee: $40 | Yoga With Shawna Members: $30 -Payment Methods: PayPal, Zelle, or Cash Reserve your spot online at jillthiry.com/reserve-a-class. • This year's course will feature poems by state poets laureate. The responsibility of a State Poet Laureate is essentially the same as the U.S Poets Laureate, “…to make public appearances at poetry readings or literary events and to promote awareness of poetry." 46 states and the District of Columbia have a State Poet Laureate, most appointed for a one or two-year term. Those participating in Poetry For The People XXlll will read selections from these State Poet Laureates and, most importantly, are encouraged to bring to the discussions their own insights, observations and perceptions. Class members’ contributions are a vital part of the class experience. Chuck Kamar received his Bachelor’s from Boston State and his Master’s from Boston University. He taught for 34 years in the Newton Public Schools, the last 20 of which were at Newton North High School. In 1998 he won the Paul E. Elicker Award for Excellence in Teaching. • The Children's Holiday Ornament and Library Decorating Day is an annual Coronado Library tradition. Each year, kids make two ornaments – one for the Children's Area tree and one to take home. This year’s ornament is a melted snowman using materials made from our 3-D Printer in the Digital Media Lab! Kids and families can enjoy refreshments while making their ornaments and other holiday crafts. This year we will be making festive paper chains to decorate the children's area and cookies to wear in the holiday parade. Those who would like to walk with the Library in the Holiday Parade on Friday, December 5 are welcome to join us starting at 5:30 in the Winn Room that day! • When a police officer is found dead in her home with a bullet between her eyes, who investigates?

Both Ciara Estrada and her boyfriend were San Diego police officers. They went with friends to a New Year’s Eve party. Pictures from that night show the smiling couple. The next day, Ciara was dead … discovered on her bathroom floor with her gun in her lap.

Her own department investigated the death and quickly ruled it a suicide. Investigators, who were her colleagues, made no arrests. Identified no suspects.

But her family says there’s more to her story – tragic circumstances that should have prompted a more thorough investigation. They don’t think the police dug deep enough into the death of one of their own.
