  • Don your best Regency attire and join dance hosts Ellen Riley and Ellie Konitshek from San Diego English Country Dancers for an introduction into the world of English Country Dance. You will be given the great opportunity to watch demonstrations of the dances mentioned in the works of Jane Austen and then, following a lesson geared towards beginners, try some of the dances for yourself. Period attire is strongly encouraged for this dance party! Registration encouraged. English Country Dance (ECD) is a social folk dance form that originated in Renaissance England and is a predecessor to contra and square dancing. Sometimes characterized by live music and graceful figures, it is typically danced in long lines where partners interact with a succession of other couples. It is known for being welcoming to beginners, with all dances taught by a caller, and a tradition of changing partners after each dance. Visit mysdpl.org/austenevents for other Austen 250 events! • Discover how sensory details can elevate your writing from ordinary to extraordinary in this lecture and workshop. Through immersive exercises focusing on each of the five senses, followed by practical editing techniques, you’ll learn to craft vivid, evocative descriptions and master the art of selective prose. Sensory details can transform a story from something mundane into something truly beautiful, but they can also be easily overwritten. In this lecture, we practice writing about each of our senses in turn, then discuss how to edit so that only the most compelling descriptions remain in our final draft.
