Alison St John (Guest Host): I remember, as a child, hearing the roar from the stadium a couple of miles down the road from my house on a Saturday afternoon. Murrayfield was a national football stadium in Britain, or as they would call the game here, soccer.
Soccer is a fast action game. Exciting to watch and more fast-paced than American football, but with fewer goals. For some reason, people in the United States don't go crazy over soccer like they do in Britain and the rest of the world for that matter. But that could change. Or could it?
An L.A. team has invested more than $30 million and put their future on the line by hiring British soccer superstar David Beckham. The Galaxy wants Beckham to turn America on to the game with his kicks memorialized in the cry "Bend it like Beckham!"
David Beckham is scheduled to play in his first match this Saturday, July 21st at 5:30 p.m. against English club Chelsea, at the Home Depot Center in Carson. The match airs on ESPN-TV.
