Top Contenders for 52nd Congressional District Discuss Qualifications, Issues

How should Congress attack our nation's financial crisis over the next couple years? What should the U.S. do in Iraq? What can be done to increase wildfire preparedness in San Diego's East County?

Tom Fudge: La Mesa. Santee. El Cajon. Ramona. Borrego Springs. Those are some of the cities located in the 52nd Congressional District, which, next year, is losing its long-time Congressman, Republican Duncan Hunter. The 52nd is the only San Diego congressional district where no incumbent is running for re-election.

Hunter established a reputation as a true conservative who was tough on defense and tough on immigration policy. Now, two men are vying to replace him in the November General Election. And they join me in studio today to debate the issues that they think are important to the district.

Duncan D. Hunter , Republican candidate for the 52nd Congressional District. He is the son of incumbent Congressman Duncan Hunter. He has served as a Marine Corps Captain. He served three tours of duty in the Middle East.
Mike Lumpkin , Democratic candidate for the 52nd Congressional District. He also brings a military background to this race. Mike is a retired Navy Seal Commander who spent 21 years in the Navy.
